The bicycle. Even with the problems my life has now, it would be worse if I hadn't learned how to ride when I was a lad. I would undoubtedly be fatter than I am now, for one.

@jesusredeemedme2425 I agree: books really are great. I wouldn't be who I am without them. All these gen Alpha kids with their phones stuck to their hands are missing out on so much...most of 'em have no idea.
One good move my mother made as a parent: when I was little, she read to me in the evening before turning off the light. Goodnight Moon, Where the Wild Things Are, of course some Dr. Seuss books, all the classics of kid lit. I learned how to read early in life, & haven't regretted it once.
