@jesusredeemedme2425 I love polka dots for summer dresses 😍.... otherwise I prefer Breton stripes for casuals. But most of the time I stick to solid colours or stitched patterns rather than prints. I'm not fond of paisley—unless it's on a scarf 😐And plaid often reminds me of upholstery🥲 though I do like it in men’s formalwear...maybe glen plaid suits. I’m not particularly fond of tartan but I’ll make an exception for a tartan skirt now and then. So the winner is polka dots!

@jesusredeemedme2425 Ooh...then look up Breton stripes — they’ve got such an interesting history! The French call them marinière and the pattern was originally worn by sailors because the stripes made it easier to spot someone if they fell overboard. And the original design had 21 navy blue stripes (symbolizing Napoleon's victories... that is what the legends say)
Wouldn’t it just be easier to… y’know… have them wear white? Instantly spotted in the water lol
@jesusredeemedme2425 Haha right? You’d think just wearing plain white would do the trick.... super easy to spot, no drama. But apparently the Breton stripes actually worked better!
Like... the navy-on-white stripes stood out more against the sea (cause contrast matters)— especially when someone’s half submerged or thrashing around. White alone could just blend in with sunlight reflections or foam. Plus, stripes made it easier to spot movement.

It’s kinda like the different colors acting differently as heat absorbers. Like, never wear black on a hot day!
@jesusredeemedme2425 Yes! Knowing which colours and patterns suit different occasions or purposes honestly makes life so much easier. Like... take construction workers — they wear yellow helmets because yellow stands out and is super easy to spot, even from a distance (Yellow = long wavelengths and minimum scattering)
