Unusual Foods According to the Alphabet!
Along a similar line as the “What are you thinking??” post that @Tinywhisper11 made <3
Post foods according to the alphabet! But not just the typical “apple, bacon, chips” kinda foods. Go BIGGER. When I say unusual, I don’t mean weird or anything. I mean… Foods most people don’t think of, haven’t tried, are from different countries than your own, etc.
Googling, etc., is absolutely allowed!
If possible, please tell us about the food. What is it? How is it cooked? Have you tried it? Where is it from?
I’ll start us off with A:
Aguachile
This is a Mexican dish made with shrimp, raw fish fillet, chiltipin peppers, lime juice, salt, slices of cucumber, and slices of red onion.
Now I’m hungry. ;)

@jesusredeemedme2425 recipe please? 🥺
@jesusredeemedme2425 vyprážaný syr (aka fried cheese). A meal that is jokingly called our Slovak national meal, given how we all enjoy it. You just coat some cheese in flour, eggs and breadcrumbs and fry it. Fun fact: this is a menu staple almost every restaurant offers here, since there are not many people who won't eat it

This totally sounds like something Americans would eat XD Fried cheese hehe
@jesusredeemedme2425 @sadcat13 😂😂 in Wales our traditional dish is called....
W Welsh rarebit which is just cheese on toast😋😋
Cat it must be a world wide thing that all traditional dishes are basically just cheese😂😂😂
@Tinywhisper11 yep. Cheese is superior :D
@sadcat13 😂😂😂
Ximenia

Yorkshire Pudding :)
Yorkshire pudding is an English popover made from eggs, flour and pan drippings most often with a roast beef dish. It’s savory with crispy edges but has a moist flavorful center that is often seasoned with the herbs you have seasoned your meat dish with.
They are a type of popover that is made with an egg, milk (or cream) and flour batter with seasonings. They can be made in individual muffin tins or in large rectangular shaped pans. They are baked at a high temp where the edges get crispy and flaky and rise up and pop up super tall and the center remains moist and a savory meat au jus flavored center.

@jesusredeemedme2425 I never heard of this dish until recently from @convivialAvocado1138 👍
Ziti is a unique tubular pasta that sets it apart from others like penne. Its smooth surface allows sauces to cling perfectly, ensuring each bite is packed with flavor. Traditionally, ziti is often served al dente, providing that satisfying chewy texture. This versatility makes it an ideal choice for a variety of dishes, from classic marinara to rich, creamy sauces.
@braindamag3
Yassssss, I'm sure if y'all tried my baked Ziti you'd be in heaven ð¤¤
@convivialAvocado1138
Baked ziti is amazzziiiing
Ackee & Saltfish-
Jamaica's national dish. Usually served for Breakfast. Served with fried dumpling, Sweet Plantain (which we call fried banana), avocado (which funny enough we just call pear) lol and fried Bread fruit which is technically a fruit that grows on a tree but it tastes starchy (good for sopping up extra gravy), or sometimes Bammy (I personally love Bammy 🤤), Bammy is a flatbread made from grated Cassava (Yuca as some call it) it's pressed seasoned with salt, soaked in milk (mmmmm my favorite) and then fried add a little butter Yummmm. Again great for sopping up that gravy lol
Ackee is technically poisonous😬 YES you heard me right.
So you have to allow it to fully ripen before consuming or cooking or you will end up in the ER!!!
It kinda reminds me of eggs, in flavor, look, texture, but a little more dense.
The Saltfish is prepared as you would season or flavor any fish, add spices & onions peppers, tomatoes.
But because it's so salty you have to soak the fish overnight in water first. Often times having to dump that water & then soak it again
But, all together the ackee & saltfish & sides are amazing. Chef's kiss

This is what ackee looks like when it's open and ripened before it's cooked

@convivialAvocado1138
First picture has Bammy, last picture has Breadfruit in it
@convivialAvocado1138
I guess you can count that as B also lol 🤷♀️
@convivialAvocado1138
Looks delish 😍 I will have to check some local Jamaican eateries for this.
Saltfish, that wouldn't happen to be COD? In Portuguese cuisine, COD is used but very salty and needs to be soaked in water as well.
Yes it is Cod, widely used around the world 😉
