Breakups
I just recently ended a relationship due to communication issues. But I'm still in love. While I know what I'm doing is best for me, I still have conflicting feelings and want to stay in contact. I just don't want to disappoint the people around me.
I'd like advice on how I should go about this because I really don't want him out of my life.
If I were you, I would evaluate what went wrong in the relationship and decide if it can still be salvaged. However, there are a couple of red flags in your statement that make me think this is probably not a relationship worth going back to. For one, the people around you seem to want you to stay away from this person. If this is for superficial reasons, then I would say to totally disregard them. However, if it's because they are worried about your well being in the relationship, then maybe you should consider what they have to say. You also state that you "know you're doing what's best for you" which implies to me that the person you were with mistreated you.
It's totally normal to miss someone you just broke up with and consider going back to them. You remember the good times and all the fun you had together and not always the bad ones that made you leave in the first place. For people who are very commitment oriented or have a fear of rejection, loneliness, or abandonment, it can especially difficult to keep a clear head and evaluate the relationship as a whole and not just the parts of it that felt good.
Never the less, it's important for you to make this decision on your own. No one else was in that relationship. No one else knows all the ins and outs, the nitty gritty details, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Most importantly, no one else can dictate your feelings for you.
I'm going through a similar situation and I just want you to know you're not alone. I completely agree with the advice above :) you know what's best for you and it seems like this person wasn't quite it. That's totally okay too!
