Depression, loneliness, no hope

January 8th, 2017

Hi, I'm a 23 year old college student who has been battling with depression for six, seven years. I wanted to drop out of college three years ago but my family didn't let me. I'm in my fifth year of a three year program and I just can't do it. I have no friends, no friends to talk to or meet or even message. I'm not on any social media because I don't have anyone to be 'social' with. I have no motivation or determination to do even simple tasks like get up in the morning, make my bed, take a shower. I have no dreams and ambitions, I don't see anything when I think of my future. I just watch TV shows or random YouTube videos or read bad chick-lit everyday for the past three years. No one knows, no one sees a problem. I can't live like this and I don't have anyone to help me or even just simply listen to me. I don't know what to do..

@Thedramatic I am really sorry to hear that your going through all of this and I commend you for reaching out in the forums to express whats going on for you, that was a really strong and courageous thing to do :) It sounds like you have had a lot to contend with, coping with college, trying to meet people but feeling that your social network is lacking, pressure from your family perhaps in continuing with your education?? How long would you say you have been feeling this way and have you been able to share with anyone what is going on for you eg Doctor, friend, school counsellor? It can be very difficult to find motivation, to get up, to study etc when feeling low and depressed. What do you feel would help you to begin tackling some of the issues you have mentioned? What is the one area that is troubling you perhaps more than others? It is quite common too to feel alone when at college or university and many people struggle with making friends whilst coping with their studies even if on the outside they may appear to be fine or coping well. There may well be others at your college who are also perhaps feeling some of what you have described, and who may also find it difficult to build their friendships and social networks. Its a bigger problem than people can realise. Please know your not alone here and your welcome to chat one to one with a listener here at 7 cups if you need. Also there are some group chat rooms here which you could take part in where others may be experiencing similar issues and you may feel less alone in perhaps taking a look at these rooms some time.

@Thedramatic
Well I see a problem.
I want you to live, but not like this either.
So I'll listen to you. I'll be your friend if you want.

You'll only have two things to do. Both very simple and complex at the same time.
Talk.
And trust.
I'll handle the rest for you.

Just talk, right here right now, or wherever, whenever you want. I'll be listening. I'll even do my best to answer.
