I'm not sure how to put this but I am looking for help.
My daughter has terrible ptsd that is triggered by gunshots or anything that sounds like an explosion. Her episodes are violent and she blacks out completely. I live in South Carolina and I'm trying to find a quiet place to take her for around new years. A place qithout fireworks that we can reach in about a day. I'm open to any suggestion if anyone has one.
My first thought is have you tried earmuffs made for gunshot/fireworks. At least over the holiday- they make sizes for children (I just googled theM) Good luck.
@ScoreKing we have special head phones but I am hoping one day I can find somewhere to take her where she can enjoy the holiday instead of being terrified by possibly hearing it. But thank you for the suggestion
@sympatheticStrings2888- good luck on your search for a quiet peaceful place. Noise pollution is a definate health risk for many. I hope you can find help for your daughter's PTSD. We have LOUD military jets flying low where I live- so the idea of headphones is a reminder to myself. Take care.
@ScoreKing
that must be very difficult for you
good luck with your recovery
@sympatheticStrings2888
we wish we knew how to help
cbt may work to an extent but we can imagine you have already tried if you are here
we are not well aquanted with ptsd but that may help
sorry that we cannot help
goodluck sir/madam/?
@unnamedcat thank you for the thought at least. I just want her to have a better holiday
@sympatheticStrings2888
you are a very kind mother for caring
you must have been through alot together
it's sweet how much you care
@unnamedcat she and I share a similar past. She's adopted and she's come a very long way. This is that one thing that just triggers the worst outcomes for her. We are very close. I know how hard it is at first. Just trying to deal with life
@sympatheticStrings2888
can we hug you ?
@unnamedcat
That would probably be nice.
@sympatheticStrings2888
aww
thank you
*hugs you
@unnamedcat thank you.
@sympatheticStrings2888
the privilege is mine (and re-reading that I should not have assumed that you were female ; my deepest apologies)
@unnamedcat
It's ok. I am female. I'm her mother.
@sympatheticStrings2888
but I should not have assumed that
according to chaos theory (we often over-use it when verybally hating upon myself)
because of my own insecurites I saw someone as a female because they cared for their child
we are messed up in the head ; sorry
@unnamedcat
we left that sentace unfinished - the power of multi tasking
theory * my actions were equally catastrophic
@unnamedcat
sorry
@unnamedcat
It is ok. I accept your apology. You are a very warm person and have made my day a bit better. Thankyou. It meant a lot.
@sympatheticStrings2888
we are a little confused why you see us so positively but we are glad that it made you happy
thank you for calling us "very warm" but I assure you otherwise however it was nice of you to say
take care
