Someone who has faced social fears successfully and can explain how they did it, not what they did, how they did it.

I struggle with social anxiety and have talked to hundreds of listeners here at 7cups. Not a single one has been able help me learn to push through my fears and actually do things I fear to do. Plenty of people I've talked to have successfully faced a fear but when I ask them how thy did it, they start telling me what they did instead. And I keep pushing, each time they tell me what they did, I repeat "but how?" Most say the "just did it" and can't tell me how. I've read a lot of self help books and they too are full of ideas on what to do. Face fears step by step, they say...exposure therapy. But they never tell you how to take a step you fear to take.

When I talk to listeners about my loneliness and social anxiety, they mostly talk about what to do. Join a group or club so you can meet people. You don't have to talk about personal things (then they suggest a bunch of stuff to possibly talk about). Or if you fear social events, just go for a few minutes and leave if you need to. All good advice I guess, but not what I need.

I can't go to a social event "for a few minutes". I can' go at all. I can't do things I fear to do. If you're the listener who can finally answer my question of how do I do things I fear? Then I definitely want to talk to you. Hope to hear from you soon. And thanks.

Hiya.

I've had very similar social issues just like you and it was very tough, but I got through it and am prepared to tell you how I did it. It might not be exactly what you need but hopefully it is.

Feel free to pm me if you want to talk.
