Daydreaming
Heyyy everyone i hope you are all doing all right! I wanted to know if anyone else here is using daydreaming as a coping mechanism? Is it kinda helping me right now but i feel weird about it. I am literally living in a world made up by my mind! I feel sad by writing this because it hurts to know that my daydreams are not true. I always daydream about a cooler version of myself, where i am confident , have a lot of friends, do the things i like the most and traveling around the world! My life is unbearably boring and painful right now! I actually started to do so since i was a little child. I think it was a way for my brain to protect itself from the pain of the emotional neglect of my parents.
I hope whoever read this has an amazing day and i am sending a lot of love and positivity your wayyy💗💗💗💗💗💗
@schrodingerscattt Hello there! First of all, thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us. It takes courage to open up about such personal experiences. Daydreaming as a coping mechanism is not uncommon, and it's understandable that you've found solace in creating a world where you feel confident and fulfilled.
It's important to recognize the strength it takes to navigate through difficult emotions. While daydreaming can provide temporary relief, acknowledging the distinction between the imaginary and reality is a big step. It sounds like you're reflecting on the roots of this coping mechanism and its connection to your past experiences.
If you feel comfortable, consider exploring this further with a mental health professional who can provide guidance tailored to your situation. Building a support system and finding healthy coping mechanisms can make a positive impact on your well-being.
Remember, you're not alone, and your journey towards self-discovery and healing is unique to you. Wishing you lots of love and positivity as you navigate through this. If you ever want to talk more, I'm here for you. Take care! 💗
@schrodingerscattt hi sweetie ❤ gives you a giant festive tiny hug ❤❤squeezes you tightly ❤ I don't think day dreaming is bad, and everyone does it to a certain extent. I realise you do it more than others. But still out of all the coping mechanism this isn't the worst. But maybe some mindfulness techniques might be useful for you, or take a lil walk in the park or something. I'm not really sure what to say to comfort you best. So I'm just gonna hug you ❤forever and ever and ever ❤
@Tinywhisper11
I just woke up from the worst nightmare ever and I really need this hug😭❤️❤️
@schrodingerscattt oh no nightmares are so frightening. Especially when they feel real😥😥 gives you another hug, are you ok now??
@Tinywhisper11
Still traumatized from the nightmare to be honest. I still can see the room I was in😭 but I'm trying to self soothe now. 7 cups is helping me with that. It has been such a big support for me. And I am so grateful to have you Tiny❤️ your replies really means the world to me❤️❤️❤️ it gives me the strength to get going
@schrodingerscattt awww that's sweet of you to say ❤ I will always be here for you ❤ try to relax today. Maybe light a candle, stay in your pjs and drink hot chocolate wrapped in a cosy blanket with relaxing music. Maybe that will help you. My heart goes out to you, I know how terrifying dreams are. But it's ok your safe now ❤
@schrodingerscattt yeah trying to push through is a good idea, but health before anything else ok?. I know dreams can be so real and bring up so many emotions they are terrifying. I wish I could be there with you to help you and comfort you ❤ I really feel your pain and misery and my heart goes out to you ❤I love you ❤
@schrodingerscattt if you have very detailed daydreams, have an addictive relationship with consistently daydreaming, have daydreams that last many minutes or even hours, and/or have trouble focusing/sleep, you could be experiencing maladaptive daydreaming. Daydreaming itself isn't a bad coping mechanism, but it can be unhealthy if it's excessive or interfering with your life, especially if it's compulsive. I'm not trying to make you feel bad or anything, just want to let you know as maladaptive daydreaming is often a sign of underlying mental illnesses so a health professional would want to know if you have it.
Again, daydreaming itself isn't bad and it can be a rather safe coping mechanism and a good source of comfort. It just helps to remember that everything (even good things) should be done in moderation.
Hello schrodingerscattt,
Does your daydreaming last all the day?
Or is there a specific time of the day where your daydreaming stop?
Does your mind create the same stories again but with different context and people?
I know I asked many questions, but I'm interested in daydreaming.
Take care and I hope you get better soon😊
Hi there Schrodingerscattt.
Just replying to let you know you’re not alone. Over the last week or so I too have become aware of how I also used daydreaming as a coping mechanism since I was a child and still do to this day. My heart goes out to you wholeheartedly as you journey along your path. I believe in you ❤️
I know it's not healthy, but I can't help it. Whenever I try to clear my mind, real life hits me with anxiety. So, I end up daydreaming to calm myself down all over again
