Drowning in fear
I was just told that I need to vacate my apartment in two months and all I can feel is fear. Fear that I won't find a new place. I live in a city where it's hard to find housing, especially pet-friendly housing. My landlords decided not to renew my lease because they want to remodel the bathroom. When I asked my landlady why they had to do it now when the bathroom is just fine (and I'm happy living here), she got very rude and dismissive, saying it's her property, she can do whatever she wants, why does she have to explain this to me, and sorry it's an inconvenience. I find the possibility of being homeless soon to be more than an inconvenience, personally.
I've been trying all day to calm myself down, which is why I'm posting on here. Any advice or even just a decent comment would be appreciated. I'll take anything over cold silence.
@sgoodell HI. 99% of the things we fear never happen. 2 months is plenty of time to arrange something else. Are you alone? Are roomates an option? Do you have family to help just in case? The main thing is do not procrastinate and use your resources to find another place. Some towns have services that help with that. Also do not look for that perfect place. You may have to settle for a place you are not totally happy with at first in order for you to buy yourself some time. You can do this.
@sgoodell Hi. Sorry you’re facing this. This is definitely a tough situation and it’s natural that fear is present. Focus on plans and actions. It’s easy for someone to say. “stop worrying,” but they aren’t in your shoes. Move ahead with plans and actions and ask worry to reschedule with you in an hour. If you can’t get any plans or actions done in an hour, sit down with your worry and listen to it for awhile. Worry will get tired after awhile if you listen to it. It’s there to try and help you, just that it thinks it’s more productive than plans and actions. If you have a plan and can take action on it, worry can come along for the ride or not if it wants. I hope this makes sense. Best of luck in finding your new place.
@sgoodell This is so frustrating. I've been there. The timing when this happens is often not ideal. Finding a place to live shouldn't be so difficult, but it often is. It has put me in some really challenging situations.
Hey! First of all don’t panic everything would be fine. You can find a lot of good properties looking up in the internet. Or hire a broker and be honest about what kind of property you would like. Don’t be scared to ask for help from people around you.
Jot down the points what kind of property you’d like. And what attributes you can compromise with and which are necessary for you to live a happy life. You’ll be fine.
