Friends
The man I was talking to (basically dating) told me he only wants to be friends. I’m shocked and don’t know how to cope. I really liked him
@secretNest4625 Hello Nest, I'm sorry to hear that someone you were dating has decided they now only want friendship with you - this is always a difficult one, and does leave us feeling shocked as we didn't see it coming. My first question to you is, do you still actually want to be friends, or would it be better to stop seeing him completely? Prolonging a friendship would be like picking at a scar that would only heal if left alone. I've linked to an article that talks more about this. The second thing is, as it does leave a void in our lives, is coming to terms with the breakup itself. The shock you've described does subside thankfully, but it does leave us with pain and a real sense of what we've lost once it wears off. Are you able to plan something to look forward to, or to pick up the thread with friends or relatives who can be of help? Having other activities and supports in place helps bridge that initial emotional gap until we've processed what has happened. Please be compassionate to yourself Nest; as ever, we're here for you.
Lovely take, thanks I know it wasn't my post but I appreciate your insight
@bestSugar5181 thanks best, that's a kind thing to say and I'm glad you found it helpful
Sorry to hear about that
I know how it feels but cheers up he may not be the person God plans for you, the right person will come,
Hey there, I’m so sorry to hear you’re dealing with such abrupt rejection: I understand how difficult it can be to have someone lead you on only to shut you down in the end. However, while it will inevitably hurt for a period of time, a new door has opened for you and you will find the strength to go through that door and explore the new connection a that await you! I know rejection hurts and can lead you to believe there’s something wrong with you: but that is far from true and it is his fault for toying with your feelings throughout the duration of your connection. You are worth so much more than a person who can not see that worth, and I promise you the right person will find you in time. Take care of yourself the best you can, surround yourself with supportive friends and family, and try to do something nice for yourself to remind you you’re worth it. Take care❤️

Rejection can sting, and it’s okay to feel hurt. What did he specifically say that led you to believe he wasn’t interested in pursuing something romantic?
I feel that. We can talk about it if you want to. 😊
