I just moved and it really sucks

So I just moved for the third time this year, and everyone that i've met in the sharing circle knows about this. I hate having to pack up my life every couple of months and move to a different place. This time it was mostly because I couldn't find affordable housing my city so now I've had to move to a different city and live with extended family temporarily.

I really hate moving and packing up my existence in 3 suitcases. It gives me the worst anxiety like why do I have to live out of suitcases and constantly think about jobs and housing.. This is the part of being an international grad student that sucks a lot, like I am equally capable as my classmates just because I dont have the citizenship that doesn't make me less capable? Just give me the damn job.

Sorry, I digressed there for a bit. Anyway, it's emotionally and mentally exhausting to move constantly and I would really love to go back to my old city and have my own space all to myself instead of living on an air mattress on the floor.

That's all ***.

@BlueCh33s3 It is very sorry to hear that you have to move to different places to live constantly. I am an international student too, and I am currently moving to a new place. Not for studying, but just I felt it a better place to live in. You see, sometimes it is quite interesting to move around to see different places and cultures. Maybe you feel a bit annoyed of having to move and have no secure living places. However, it is not something that will hurt you or make you depressed, and as you cannot avoid it, face it, and try to think of the better aspect of moving around. Looking forward of hearing how you feel.

@JerryYao I hear your point but I have really bad anxiety when it comes to moving. It took me so long to settle into my place in my last city and suddenly I had to wrap up my life again and move to a shittier city. I've already seen enough violence and other issues in my 2 weeks here now and I am looking for opportunities to go back to my old city that has all my friends and places that I've loved for 10+ months.

Hi @BlueCh33s3, I hear that you might feel anxiety and possibly frustrated from having to move away from your support network and to a new, less ideal place.

I wanted to share that I have anxiety and used to constantly move (3 times in 1 year before). I think what helped me with anxiety is when I focus on things in the new area that reminds me of the old (specific supermarkets, a mall, favorite coffee shop chain). It’s the little things. I also try to visit the old city that i love (when I can) or call my friends / social circle (thank goodness for technology!). Although these things don’t replace or bring me back to the feelings that I once have, it’s acceptable to me at the time. I also count the months it takes me to adjust (since I’ve done it so much): in 3 months, I’ll start to not feel so homesick; in 6 months, I might make a new friend, etc. That helps me to not feel so stuck. So what I wanted to say to you is to friendly remind you that this is not a permanent living situation and eventually you may move back if/when the opportunity presents itself. I wish you the best!
