I need help

I’m 23 years old, and I’m feeling completely overwhelmed. My dad expects me to do all the housework and take care of my 91-year-old grandmother while he doesn’t lift a finger. It feels like every day is the same: I’m constantly cleaning, cooking, running errands, and making sure my grandmother is okay, with no help at all.

I understand that my grandmother needs a lot of care, but it’s taking a huge toll on my life. I can’t go anywhere, I can’t make time for myself, and I can’t pursue anything that could help me move forward. I don’t even have the freedom to learn how to drive, because I’m stuck in this cycle.

It feels like I’m trapped, and every time I try to stand up for myself, my dad guilt-trips me. He says I should be thankful for the opportunity to take care of family, but I’m honestly just drained. I’ve lost so much of myself, and it feels like I’ll never be able to live my life the way I want to.

I just needed to share this because it’s been eating away at me. If anyone has gone through something similar or has any advice on how to deal with this, I’d really appreciate it.

@Knightgamer I’m really sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way. It sounds like you're carrying an immense burden and it’s completely understandable that you're overwhelmed. You're doing an incredible amount of work taking care of both your dad and your grandmother, and it’s really admirable how much you're doing for them. But you’re also so important, and you deserve time for yourself and the opportunity to pursue your own life goals, too. It’s okay to set boundaries, and your needs matter just as much. Have you considered talking to your dad about how you're feeling? Sometimes, people don’t realize the strain they’re putting on us until we explain it. Maybe there’s a way to work out some shared responsibilities or get additional help with your grandmother’s care, even if it’s just a little bit. You deserve to feel supported, and it’s okay to ask for that support. Please take care of yourself…You don’t have to do it all alone.
