I never liked the colour red... until today...
I've never liked red.
Not in a dramatic way...I just never understood what people saw in that colour. It was never beautiful to me, never special. If anything, it was probably one of the colours I hated the mosttttttttttttt....
And then today happened.
After three whole months of not seeing him, I saw him again.
And the strangest part is that I wasn't even expecting it.
I was standing with my friend infront of the college gate, casually talking about bunking class, completely lost in our own little conversation. He hardly ever comes to college unless there's an exam or some reason he absolutely has to be there, so the possibility of seeing him wasn't even somewhere in the back of my mind.
Then I happened to look toward the gate.
And there he was.
Just... there.
Walking into college as if the universe hadn't just casually dropped the one person I'd spent three months trying not to think about right in front of me.
And he was wearing red.
Red.
The colour I've never liked.
And somehow, it had never looked so beautiful before.
For a moment, I just looked at him. Three months of memories somehow condensed into one tiny moment. All those thoughts I'd convinced myself were fading suddenly felt very much alive.
And apparently, I was the first person he saw when he came in as I was standing infront of the main gate.
Our eyes met.
Neither of us said anything.
Neither of us smiled.
I kept my face completely normal, pretending I didn't care, pretending seeing him after three months was just another ordinary thing.I continued talking to my friend, trying to act completely normal, but I kept noticing him from the corner of my eye. At one point, I saw him from behind, and somehow, just as I was looking, he turned his head back too not directly toward me, but enough to make me wonder if he had noticed me.
I immediately tried to avoid looking.
I really did.
But somehow, I saw him three different times today.
And every single time, there was this tiny part of me that wanted to stop pretending and just look at him for a little longer.
I wanted to see his face properly. I wanted to notice the little details I'd spent months remembering. I wanted to hear his voice again, even though he never spoke to me today.
But I kept pretending I didn't care.
From the outside, I was perfectly fine.
But inside?
Oh, inside was a completely different story.
I was so happy.
Almost embarrassingly happy.
My heart felt like it was trying to escape my chest, and I had to sit somewhere acting like nothing had happened. I wanted to smile, but I didn't. I wanted to look again, but I was afraid I'd make it obvious.
So I just sat there, quietly carrying all that happiness inside me.
It was such a small moment.
He didn't say anything.
I didn't say anything.
Nothing happened.
And yet somehow, it meant so much to me.
Maybe that's the funny thing about feelings. Sometimes you don't need a conversation or a grand gesture. Sometimes seeing someone's face after you've missed them for months is enough to make your entire day feel lighter.
And now I'm sitting here wondering...
Maybe I never actually hated red.
Maybe I just never saw it on him before.
