I think my friend is distancing us
For months now, I've felt like my best friend of two years is avoiding me. He doesn't talk to me all that much anymore, and we usually chat everyday. I get that he's busy, but it feels like more than that. He called someone else his best friend, and it hurt me so much. I truly feel like he doesn't want to be friends anymore but he doesn't wanna tell me. Even when I talk to him about my concerns, he has little to nothing to offer to reassure me, and I've seen what he's like when he wants to stop being friends with somebody. This feels like that exact situation. I feel like it's all in my head, though. Because he has said "I'm not trying to do that. I love you," and it really hit me hard. I don't know what to believe. My gut feels like ***.

I'm really sorry you're going through this. That feeling of drifting apart from someone who used to be so close can be heartbreaking, especially when you're not sure if it's just in your head or if something has really changed. It sounds like you're caught between what your gut is telling you and the reassurance he’s giving you, but his actions aren’t aligning with his words.
The fact that he called someone else his best friend, especially when you’ve been used to that role, must’ve really hurt. That, combined with him being distant and not putting in the effort to reassure you when you bring up your concerns, is understandable why you’d feel like he’s pulling away. If he truly valued your friendship the same way he used to, he’d likely be making more of an effort to make you feel secure, even if he's busy.
At the same time, it’s possible he still cares about you, just in a different way than before. People change, and sometimes friendships naturally shift even when we don’t want them to. The hardest part is accepting that you can’t force someone to prioritize you the way they once did, even if you’ve done nothing wrong.
