What’s the Most Hurtful Thing Someone Has Ever Said to You? Let’s Laugh (and Cry) Together!

Alright, folks, let’s stir things up a bit. I’m calling out those soul-crushing, jaw-dropping, “did they really just say that?” moments—the ones we still think about in the shower 10 years later, plotting our ultimate comeback. What’s the most hurtful thing someone’s ever said to you?

I’ll start, because fair is fair. One time, someone looked me dead in the eyes and said: “You have the personality of an overcooked potato.” AN. OVERCOOKED. POTATO. Like, excuse me?! At least compare me to mashed potatoes or something versatile and comforting. But no, they went straight for the dry, flavorless insult that haunts me to this day.

Or there’s my friend, who once got told by a teacher: “You’re the reason I drink.” The TEACHER. Imagine doing your homework and still being blamed for someone’s Merlot habit.

But here’s the thing—those words hurt then, but now? Now we laugh about them (and also secretly hope karma got those people back). That’s the beauty of sharing these moments: they lose their power over you when you can throw a little humor at them and share them with people who get it.

So, hit me with your stories. Let’s turn this into a group roast of the most ridiculous, hurtful things we’ve ever heard. You can go deep if you want, but even the small, dumb insults count—like that time someone said your new haircut made you look like a “vegetable emoji” (that one hurt a little, not gonna lie).

And hey, if your story is truly wild, I’ll pin it as the Hall of Fame Hurtful Comment. So, let’s hear it: What’s the thing someone said to you that still makes you go, “WOW, okay, thanks for that”? Bonus points if it’s funny, weird, or just downright petty. Let’s keep it light, and maybe—just maybe—we’ll all feel a little better after laughing at the absurdity of it all.

Alright, your turn—don’t leave me hanging! Btw i will post this in another forum just to reach more people.

@brightaday

Hmmm some ppl and even members here tell

"Why I am still alive until now"

Or "ohh Idk how you can still alive and breath with everything you are going through,I envy you "

That's latterly what they say lol

First of all, let me just say this: Why am I still alive? Well, it’s because the universe has clearly decided that I’m a survivor of the highest order. I’m like the cockroach of human emotions nothing can knock me down! Seriously though, it’s tough, right? But we’re all still breathing because, well, life is full of unexpected twists, and sometimes, you have to keep going because you never know what’s around the corner.

And as for the “I envy you” comments no, no, no! Don’t envy someone’s strength. It’s not like we ask for these tough times, trust me. If I had a choice, I’d pick a life of endless ice cream sundaes and vacations, not this. But we don’t get to pick the challenges life throws at us. We just have to learn to dance through the storm, even if the dance moves look like a toddler trying to breakdance. But hey, we’re doing it, right?

So instead of envying others, let’s all focus on this: Every time you think you can’t go on, you’re wrong. You can go on, because you already have. And that, my friend, is something worth celebrating. You’re alive because you’re meant to be, and no one, not even you, should underestimate how awesome that really is. Keep breathing, keep moving, and most importantly, keep laughing. It’s the best way to show life who’s boss!❤️

All I will ever be is just a friend. Your to nice to be anything more. But in reality, they really don’t act as if they are my friend and I start to feel like I’m that friend that they keep around because I am the nice guy.

Ah, the classic “I’m too nice to be anything more” line—sounds like someone’s trying to be a heartbreaker while keeping you around for the good vibes! But hey, being the “nice guy” isn’t a bad thing it’s like being the secret ingredient in a great recipe. People might not always appreciate it, but trust me, they’ll miss it when it’s gone! Keep being awesome, and if they don’t see it, that’s their loss. Your kindness will get you way farther than their confusion ever will! ❤️

@brightaday that I have no value and worth. That I am not a good wife and a mother. That I am a ***, a *** and a ***. Said many times all throughout the marriage.

Oh, wow, whoever said that must have skipped the “How to Not Be a Total Jerk” class. They’re probably the type to think a cucumber is a pickle’s more sophisticated cousin. Look, if they’re calling you all those names, it’s because they’re probably confused about what real strength looks like. Newsflash: It’s you. You’re like a mom-ninja, silently saving the day while juggling everything life throws at you probably with one hand, while making dinner with the other.

You’re a great wife, a great mom, and honestly, you’re probably so amazing they need to invent a new word for it. Forget their nonsense. Keep doing you, because you’re crushing it—just like a superhero with a really bad sense of humor (and a solid cup of coffee).🙌❤️

Well, if being silly means I get to enjoy life and make people laugh, then I’ll gladly wear that badge! As for weak, I’d say I’m more like a strong cup of coffee — might seem chill at first, but I can handle a lot before I run out of steam. Plus, I’ve got a lot more strength than people give me credit for. Don’t let anyone’s words get you down; you’re stronger than you think, and a little humor goes a long way!🙌❤️

There are two occasions which spring to mind.

The first one happened when I was at school. I must have been 12 years old. It was a chaotic class; we were baking something, and everyone needed help with something. I was feeling anxious for some reason (can't remember why), and I went to ask for help from my teacher. She said something along the lines of, "I don't have the energy to deal with your silly problems now". Those words still ring in my head after all these years.

The second one happened when my ex broke up with me. One thing she told me stood out: she didn't think the presents I had given her for her birthday and for Christmas were "feminine" enough, implying that she hadn't been happy with them. My thought process had always been that she knew better the types of "feminine" things she enjoyed, so I'd get her something thoughtful but different. It stung. How long had she felt unhappy with the presents I'd given her without mentioning it to me?

These things may seem ridiculous, but they're ones which came to my mind immediately.

Ah, the classic “silly problems” moment and the “feminine enough” gift dilemma. It’s like life’s way of saying, “Hey, here’s a reminder that sometimes you just can’t win.” The teacher could’ve been like, “Let’s bake our way to success,” but nope, they were all out of ‘energy’ for you. As for the ex, sounds like she wanted a gift that screamed “sparkly unicorns” instead of thoughtful. Don’t worry though, it’s their loss! You gave it your best shot next time, just get her a glittery, pink unicorn and call it a day!😂❤️

@brightaday that's such a weird comment ngl

I guess the most hurtful thing someone said to me is, when I didn't feel very well in class, my teacher told me they wouldn't pick me up or call an ambulance if something happens to me, and I am still shocked to this day how on Earth do you say that as a living person, let alone teacher? I wasn't hurt by his comment but I was very worried, and I was wondering, was he thinking that about other students as well, or just me.

Wow, that’s seriously messed up! I mean, how do you even say that as a teacher? Shouldn’t they be like, “I got your back, kid, let’s make sure you’re okay”? Instead, you got hit with the “I’m not calling an ambulance” punch. It’s one of those comments that just sticks with you, because it makes you question, “Wait, are you this cold with everyone or am I special in the worst way possible?” Honestly, you deserve better than that, and I’m sure most of the other students did too. Teachers should be like superheroes, not villains in a bad drama.

Hey @brightaday, the worst thing a person I love said to me is, "You're ugly and nobody will even approach you with a stick."

Oh wow, that’s a tough one. I mean, who says something like that? That’s just pure, uncalled-for nastiness. I’m really sorry you had to hear that. But here’s the thing people who say stuff like that are usually just projecting their own issues. It has nothing to do with you and everything to do with their own insecurities. You’re amazing just the way you are, and don’t let anyone’s hurtful words make you doubt that. People who truly care about you wouldn’t speak to you like that. Keep your head high, because you’re better than that kind of negativity!❤️

@brightaday @brightaday someone I knew who unfortunately died a few years ago once said to me "I know people who can get you killed". Now I know that sounds harsh, but they weren't ever going to do it. They were angry most of the time, not just with me, but with the world in general. I did do something naughty by the way, but nothing bad enough to warrant what they said. Deep down they weren't bad, just angry. I did have some good times with them, but they didn't know how to communicate properly. RIP!

That’s a really tough one to process, especially when someone says something so intense. It sounds like they were carrying a lot of their own struggles, and unfortunately, it came out in ways that left you feeling uneasy. I’m sorry you had to experience that. Sometimes, people who are hurting project that pain onto others, and even though you knew deep down they didn’t mean harm, those words can still linger. It’s a reminder that we all deal with our own battles, and unfortunately, not everyone knows how to handle those emotions in a healthy way.

I hope you’ve been able to make peace with the situation. It’s clear you saw the good in them too, despite the tough times. Rest in peace to them, and hopefully, you’re able to find comfort in the memories that were positive. Take care of yourself, always.❤️🙌

@brightaday several times a week, i'm told by at least two people who I work with, who are in management positions above me, that 'they have way more experience than me' and essentially tell me to sit down be quiet. I've been working professionally since 1999!

It’s like they missed the memo that experience isn’t about how long you’ve been doing something, but what you’ve actually learned along the way! The “sit down and be quiet” mentality really doesn’t do anyone any favors especially not when someone’s been in the game as long as you have.

It’s almost as if they think “experience” means just time served, not the skills and wisdom that come from actually doing the work. Don’t let that get to you. Keep showing your value in ways that matter, and let the experience do the talking. Sometimes, people in management need a little reminder that it’s not about titles it’s about the actual work that gets done. You’ve got the experience, and they should be learning from you! Keep holding your ground you’re a pro!❤️
