Mistakes and forgiving yourself

Hey everyone 🤗

I’ve been struggling with regret over past mistakes and wasted time. I know I can’t change the past, but I keep replaying it and wondering what I should have done differently.

For those who’ve experienced this:

How did you learn to forgive yourself?

What helped you stop replaying the past?

How did you move forward without giving up?

Are there any habits or exercises that helped?

I’d appreciate hearing what worked for you. ❤️

@independentBanana712 You can get  "over past mistakes and wasted time" by ensuring you do not repeat the same in the present. Past is gone and will never come back. Wasting your energy into focusing on the past will do you no good.

What will do you good is to focus on the present and make it as best as possible. Remember, 8 billion people in this planet and everyone makes mistakes. The growth oriented people will choose to learn from the past and make their present better.

"Empty mind is a devils workshop". Keep yourself busy to keep negative thoughts at bay. All the best.

@independentBanana712 I understand how you're feeling, I was there once and I believe everyone has been in that spot where they're stuck in a loop of grief, regret and denial. I don't know what exactly you're going through buy I can tell you that you're perceptive to have noticed your flaws and strong willed enough to want to fix it. I believe that you can forgive yourself by first accepting and acknowledging the pain, which I'm proud of you for doing now. To stop relying the loop, you shoult try to find your trigger and eventually overcome it. You can move forward by focusing on the present and taking tiny steps. I suggest you journal, practice meditation and create a gratitude list. However, this cannot be taken as solid advice, I suggest you to reflect and create an action plan by yourself. If you need to vent to anyone, I suggest you contact a listener.

Remind yourself you're human. Noone is perfect.

When an error in judgement keeps replaying. I take these steps, to me it helps..

1. Physically hold up up my hand and say Yes I admit, I didn't do the right thing and I take full responsibility.

2. Accept however I feel. I'm embarrassed. How could I? I'm angry with myself, I was careless. I don't feel myself, I'm usually smarter than this. I feel foolish, it's such a simple error..

3. I accept it's done. I made the decisions I did at the time and it is, what it is. Now moving forwards what steps will I take?

4. Apologise? Make amends? Think about the consequences before I act? Think about a better way to do things.

5. I forgive myself. I truly am remorseful and in the future I hope to do better.
