Trigger warning.: Suicide

My 16 y/o niece committed suicide last week. Her dad passed away a few months before, and it hit her hard. Dealing with that kind of loss took a toll on her mental health. She always kept her pain to herself because she didn't want to burden others. Despite that, our bond was incredibly strong. I wish I could have done something to make it better. I just don't know how to handle it all and still be there for my sister

oh, reading that just breaks my heart, especially for the mother. as a mom, losing my kids is my absolute worst nightmare. losing a child and a partner (if your niece’s parents were together) is unimaginable. of course, it’s incredibly difficult for you as well.

@MellowBellow

Yes, they were together. The thought of losing my own kids is absolutely devastating. I treated my niece as if she were my own, so losing her is just as heart-wrenching as losing one of my own kids

Sending you virtual hugs filled with warmth and care. Please prioritize your own well being because in order to be there for your sister, you need to take care of yourself first

I lost my child, so I can relate to your pain to some extent.

I'm so sorry to hear about what you and your family are going through. I can't even begin to imagine the pain and heartbreak you must be feeling. Losing your niece to suicide, especially after her dad's passing, is an incredibly difficult and heavy burden to bear.

I wish I could take away your pain or have done something to prevent this tragedy, but please know that it's not your fault. Mental health struggles can be incredibly complex, and it's often difficult for people to reach out and share their pain, even with loved ones. Your bond with your niece was strong, and I'm sure she cherished having you in her life.

In terms of supporting your sister, it's important to be there for her during this unimaginably difficult time. Let her know that you're there to listen, to cry with her, and to offer whatever support she needs.

Please remember to take care of yourself too.

I appreciate your understanding and empathy. Your words mean a lot to me, especially coming from someone who has experienced a similar kind of pain

I am SO SORRY! My father passed away 2 years ago. He was the ONLY one in my life that supported me and gave me unconditional love. I was trying to emerge and rebuild from relentless trauma when he passed away and I didn't know if I would make it. There are few words to explain the grief that caused your niece to take action... I get it. But in this dark time, PLEASE know this: we come into this world agreeing to our life paths set before us, and that includes how we interact with others, and how they affect us (and vice versa). As odd as it sounds, her time to go was last week... that was her path she chose prior. It is also the agreed upon "event of growth" (for lack of a better term) for all whose lives she touched, especially yours. It makes no sense now, and my words might sound silly now, but with time the bigger picture of "why and what" related to this event with show itself. It is doing so already, actually... as I was/am in a dark, lonely place today, but her passing and your post gave me purpose to help someone with my insight and words. So you and your niece both hoped me today... and I thank you and love you for that! 💞

P.S. from my prior comment... today is my first day on here, I am brand new, just created my account, and I have been on for only 30 minutes, so to me that affirms even more what I said. 💕
