it's common to feel bad about doing it because there are a lot of myths that it is dirty and dangerous but it's totally healthy perfect safe and normal. it makes you feel good and relieves stress. the reason you feel ashamed is because you've been conditioned to feel like that. as a women, i can relate and i think its harder for us because female sexuality and pleasure have been swept under the rug for a long time. another stigma that we need to shake off is that the idea of using porn or sex toys to explore masturbation further is something to be ashamed of. sorry if TMI, just tried to be open and hope this helps you feel better :)

i like your response... after all it's your body and you do what feels good to you

Well it could be due to lack of information, lack of self esteem, maybe it's from your childhood. Do you have a partner? If so you could try it together and see if that helps eliminate some of the shame

I'm a guy. not sure why you feel that way but I know it's kinda common. do you like know what is causing the shame. I think it's a healthy act just depends on your views and stuff like that. feeling ashamed might eventually cause more damage to your health.

@inventiveAvocado642 Hey, there's nothing to feel bad about. It's a natural call from your body. You might have a negative feeling associaated because we have been conditioned to view it as taboo but it's not. Trust me, give yourself some slack, you have committed no crime.

I think the shame you refer to indicates that this is more of a psychological than physical issue. It's as if you're violating some strict rule by pleasuring yourself, which is 100% natural. It's sad when I hear of people who can't enjoy this; nature clearly intended this, or we wouldn't be so powerfully stimulated by genital contact. Just a suggestion... you might want to seek out a therapist or counselor to sort out why you feel the embarrassment you are feeling. It's not only a common pleasurable activity but it's also relatively common to question whether it's OK to do

@inventiveAvocado642: Never feel ashamed to ***. It is a normal and healthy thing and just about everyone masturbates or has masturbated in their lives. If they tell you otherwise they most likely are lying. As a male when I was very young like 3 I remember when I would take a bath and my mom would come in to get me out of the bath tub if I was touch my genitals she would say don't play with your _______. Till this day I still don't know why she said that. She is a former school nurse and former public health nurse so of all people I would think she knows about that stuff and that young males explore that region. But she always told me not to play with that part. Makes me think she was always anti masturbation. For a while that made me feel bad every time I masturbated in my room knowing if my mom walked in and say me accidentally what would she say. Would she be upset. But never has happened So don't be ashamed and if anyone tells you to be. Don't listen to them. It is your body and you are the boss of it.
