I am not what I thought

Hi

I just watched a movie named "Fault in our stars" (2014).

Though people on internet said that they loved the story, and even cried. I felt that it was like another story from MCU. In end Augustus, main character died but I didn't felt any sad feelings. I thought that his suffering ended with his death. Does this shows I am cold hearted? Really this movie made me question myself.

Is this a symptom of mental illness?

@ApurvaSingh123 That would be really hard to say based on your reaction to a single event. You may have brought in certain attitudes when you watched the movie that affected your reaction. Or maybe the way the film portrayed the character might illicit similar reactions from other viewers.

I don’t think so. We cannot force ourself to relate or reciprocate. Sometimes we just can’t. Being hard on ourself why i am not feeling sad is not good. We are humans and all are different.

We can call it illness if you would have hurt someone intentionally and didn’t feel pain or empathy.

@ApurvaSingh123

I think emotional connection to movies is entirely individual. I know one movie that everyone cried at (PS I Love You) I spent the two hours going 'And...'. While as I can tear up easily at trailers. It's odd.

There is nothing wrong with you. Sometimes the way a story is told just doesn't touch you the way the same story told differently might.

Okay, well my name literally means "something which never existed before" in Hindi. I think that's why I am bit different.

Now I will read the book of same movie.

@ApurvaSingh123

Your name means one of a kind or unique like no other. Isn't it

And that's doesn't make you different. Your reaction to the movie does not mean that you are cold-hearted. People have different emotional responses to movies and books based on their own personal experiences. Some people may relate more to the characters and their struggles, while others might not feel as emotionally invested.

So it's okay to have a different emotional response than others, and it doesn't make you any less empathetic or caring.

PS: Even I didn't cried after watching Titanic which people think is epic of modern world

@ApurvaSingh123 I don't think you're coldhearted it could just be the story was not something you connected with
