Life as a Movie

August 26th, 2014

This is not a novel concept, but it's one I forget from time to time. When your life is sucking, try to step back and pretend you're in a movie. Sometimes it really helps to go from seeing things as ridiculously difficult to just plain ridiculous. I think to myself, "Who's writing this crap?"

But more seriously, if you were watching this movie instead of being in it, and somebody else were playing your role, think of how much you'd admire them for going through so much and not giving up. As long as you're alive, you get to see how it all ends (Like that paradox?). There's a 0.001% chance it will all make sense...

Be your own hero!

That's an amazing idea! I think this might really help people to step back and look at their life from afar. It's difficult to see things clearly when you're in the middle of it.

Lovely idea! :D

Thanks! Hope it helps some others. I can't remember where I first heard of this idea, so I can't give credit, but... A couple of good movies that explore this concept are The Truman Show and Stranger Than Fiction. As long as nobody completely loses touch with reality, it's a fun way to practice healthy detachment. Anyway, I'm not sure anybody can prove that it's not true... :)

What a cool approach, I will think of this in the future if I remember it! Thank you :)

This is interesting! It reminds me of when you lose things and you say, "If I was my pencil, where would I be?".. but in a way that could help a lot more :P

I'll try this next time. You can also pretend your friend is going through pretty much the same thing. If they asked you for advice, what would you say?
