Lost in medical field
Hello, I'm a 33 yo female, and I decided to go back to school. Im two years in and in a ton of debt. I still have a year to go, because one of my instructors said I wasn't ready. I find myself lacking confidence now. I'm also feeling more depressed. I don't know how to shed her negative take toward me. I'll be working with someone new this semester, but still, how do I come back from someone putting me down and telling me she has serious concerns? I feel like I can't tell right from wrong. I'm confused about my place in the field I chose and how to be happy.
Congrats on going back to school, Gia. I'm sorry for the stress you're going through and the low confidence you're feeling right now. Working with someone new may help you see if any of the previous persons comments had merit and realize that you are ready. Are you happy with the field you chose? Do you want to be in this field? Is it worth it to you? How has being in school these past two years made think about this field?
Hi, thanks for your questions. I'm kind of sick of my program/fieldactually. I'm not feeling passionate about it, but I think that's because I feel so alone in it. I am so insecure, that I end up getting competitive and defensive with my coworkers/students/supervisors. It's just a mess. I'm afraid I'll start the new school year already tired of it and with a bad attitude. I don't know how to accept my ignorance with grace and how to be open to criticism.
I'm sorry that the loneliness is making you feel less passionate right now. Being open to criticism is hard. I admire you for wanting to be more open to it and wanting to start the year off on the right foot. You said that you were feeling alone in your field and getting competitive with your classmates, coworkers, and supervisors. Could connecting with them help? What caused to gain interest in the medical field? What can you do to be more open to criticism?
I think I do want to try and build relationships with them. I guess I am so lost that it's hard to have self respect. I need to ponder that. Thanks. I'm going to think about what I would want to see in my students if I were a supervisor. I'm afraid I might not have enough expertise in this field, like it isn't coming naturally. :/
How can you work on building your self-respect even if you feel lost? Is there someone who can help you if you're lost, possibly the new person that you are working with?
I really like that you are thinking about what you want to see in your students if you were the supervisior to them. And that you are in touch with your fears about working in this field. Sometimes things don't come naturally and we have to work harder at it, frustrating so very frustrating. I'd glad that you are trying really hard to make sure that you are your best. I think you'll make a good addition to the medical field.
