Stuck between job choice

I finally found a decent job in a place I never pictured myself working - a call centre astechnical support. The pay is better than average where I live and comes with top notch benefits. Plus I'm only working part time hours but making as much as I did at my minimum wage full time job before. But it is effecting my personal life and my relationship with my girlfriend.

My job consists of all nights to overnights and never allows for a weekend off. My girlfriend and I barely see much of each other between her studies and my shifts. By the time I get home and pass out, she's just getting up. I'm not as active as I'd like to be (I'd prefer a physical job insteadof sitting at a desk on calls) - so I feel crummy all the time now. I do walk to work and home which takes a hour each way.

Simply putmy life is work, sleep, work, sleep, work, spend little time with gf, exhausted, work, sleep. Rinse, repeat.

But the pay is great that I can afford to carry our place all my own and not have to worry about coming up short at the end of the month, usually having a few to spare and treat ourselves to a night out when time allows it.And the benefits are unlike any other companies.

But I'm debating is it worth it? I'm considering going back to finding a full time day job, even at minimum wage. I'll lose the security and perks but would probably have weekends off, if only every other. I wouldn't be so exhausted that I don't feel like doing anything except sleep and wouldn't be stuck at a desk all the time.

We're still young and she understands I'm doing what I must, trying to advance but it's tough. What are your thoughts? Ever been in similar shoes?

How old are you? By the time I was 22, Ihad 2 jobs, one part time in the morning and one full time second shift. I had my own place and occassionallyhad to work weekends. It's a pain in the ass, but both jobs had benefits. I'm going to be 30 now and I had decided to open my own auto shop 3 years ago, but I still put money away in my 401K/IRA. My point being, you have to look towards your future. Jobs are not easy to find right now, and if you are in the USA, you know that there is so much crap w/insurance also, and if you are able to put money away every pay period in a 401 or IRA that is awesome b/c who knows what will happen in 20 years! You don't want to depend on Social Security .. You pay towards it in your taxes, but I don't want to rely on those jerks when I get old. And as for your girlfriend, if she's getting mad just b/c you don't spend enough time w/her .. well you will!. I don't like being smothered, I like my space, so Idk how to answer the part about your girlfriend. I work w/my husband and weekends we do something together or he finds a project on the house to do and I have my space lol. But if I were you, in this day w/crappy jobs/insurance, I'd keep the job.

yes it is worth it. finding a good job, with good pay, good benefits, and it's something you like is a blessing! if your young even better! as humans we adjust and you and your gfwill have to adjust to your lifestyle. I'm sure you can request days off. request a day off here and there! cherish it! leave each other little notes, either love notes or silly notes or motivational notes what have you. surprise each other with things, little gifts non expensive. the little things count!

Actually. If you need your gf. Or your gf want you. You can leave long email telling your days. You can read and answer it in your convinience time. And she is also can do it. Bith of you still can communicate each others. That how our grandmother. Or grandfather do long time ago with letter. And we have emails now.
