What empowers us to feel more confident each day in spite of obstacles that may arise?
Lack of confidence can be a huge barrier for us in being able to socialize, dealing with difficult problems, trusting others (even the person closest to us) which is a part of mantaining positive relationships. And also we can't find reasons to love ourselves for who we are. Maybe because others were constantly critical of us that we eventually started feeling unworthy, unloved, that we are some sort of a burden. The main factor that affects our confidence is low self-esteem which can vary from unhappy childhood, poor acedemic performace or any ongoing stressful life event such as; trying to make ends meet or experiencing a heartache from the breakup.
After all the above mentioned situations are not easy to cope with, especially on our own. Each and every one of us needs a deserved support, understanding, love and warmth that is genuine - that doesnt look for its benefits or to get something out of it. I am sure I am not the only one here who understands what that must be like to not believe in yourself and when people see you in the same light.
However, I've figured a few coping strategies that I think worked for me everytime I felt sad, down and lonely. That is I use any opportunity I have to surround myself with loving companions whom I can share my deepest sorrows, troubles and pain with. I know that they would listen, comfort and be there for me. Those I truly cherish in my life. In times of distress what I do is I meditate and practise mindfuless - at other occasions I enjoy listening to a calming/healing music (in my spare time). This helps to release tension in my muscles and reduce the anxiety that I tend to experience after overwhelming/stressful situation.
I won't forget to mention about 7Cups, because it's such a privilege to be with you all. You are one Fanstastic community. Given that I have a lot to bring to the table and a lot to share, I know that 7Cups can help me do just that. But I always appreciate when others are able to share their story too. The truth is when we feel good with and about ourselves, we also become more confident in our own skin and our abilities. Since confidence is not something we inherit at birth, we need to continuously build ways to improve self-confidence by any means. If approach A didn't work, have plan B at hand. Never ever give up after one, two or even three failures.
Rise after every fall, and your confidence will grow!

What makes me feel more confident is mindfulness, realizing that what I think people think of me, is many times, proven to be wrong. I tend to think poorly of myself and anytime I let my guard down and it comes out, people looked shocked. So it's a reminder that what I think about me, is most of the time wrong, so I should stop listening to that voice. I'm still trying to figure this out. Many times, I get reassurance from my bosses, superviors or co-workers and basically run on that.
@ReservedExcitement
It helps me when I cant find that reassurance to go inside and look at the doubt and name it a thought which is arising from myself and tell it that it doesnt have any power. Im still working on it and its tough but it helps to have a back up when there might not be reassurance or praise available.
@Starryeys
You are saying the right thing. We all look to hear positive feedback from others in different situations to encourage us, to motivate us, to help us feel valued, wanted. That is great too. Nonetheless, as you mentioned, relaying on the reassurance from people at all times should not be primary source to achieving that. Most of the courage and determination we can find is within ourselves.
@Starryeys
Okay, will try that because right now I'm at the mercy of merciless people. So, I better find out how.

@ReservedExcitement
wishing you boatloads of compassion for yourself in your difficulties. You can get through it one step at a time :)
@Starryeys
Thank you for offering an encouragement and thank you for being supportive! You are right by saying to take things one step at a time and work through each one first. Because focusing on multimple issues simultaneously can become quite overwhelming.
@Starryeys
Thanks
@ReservedExcitement
I am glad to hear that Mindfulness helps you! Taking that step is big and important - first to realize that there is problem to be solved and then we find ways to cope through it, whatever works for us! You are determined to improve your confidence and feel better as a person. That's great. You are doing excellent by focusing on things that benefit you. :) Praises are also encouraging, whether we receive it from our family or people from work.
