Mental Illness Awareness Week (US) Oct. 4-10
I've been planning to do something on my campus to raise awareness and fight stigma and thought I'd share the dates and some information in Mental Illness Awareness Week. The NAMI web page on this has links to may resources should you wish to participate. Below is an excerpt from their site:
2015 Theme and Information
Each year Mental Illnees Awareness Week occurs during the first full week of October. This year it takes place between October 4–10. This year, the theme revolves around building a movement through the new StigmaFree initiative.
Being Stigma Free means learning about and educating others on mental illness, focusing on connecting with people to see each other as individuals and not a diagnosis, and most importantly, taking action on mental health issues and taking the StigmaFree pledge.
The hashtag for the theme is #IAmStigmaFree.
@squib
Beautiful idea, this is such an important week to mark! I believe that we have plans here to mark that week as well, I'm going to tag in @QuickJazz (our one and only Special Events Co-ordinator here!), so she can better explain our plans.
I adore the idea of a few #IAmStigmaFree events actually, I've got a few ideas for a forum post or three, it's such an important cornerstone for mental health tolerance and understanding.
Thank you, as ever, for being such an insightful, dedicated and supportive member of our community ❤ There's a compliment for you to practice with ;)
Thank you for tagging me in @Lyra and for raising this, @squib !
We are indeed hoping to celebrate this week as best as we can!! Would love to see this acknowledged across here on 7Cups. So if there is anything you'd like to see for this event on 7Cups, please submit your ideas here! (Alternatively, adult members and listeners can send a message to @ItsLee ).
I love when ppl start initiatives like this. I've seen an awareness trend a student started go viral & it was so inspiring. Props to you @squib
