My Story
Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well. I saw this subcommunity and wanted to share my story with mental health in short. 😊
I have struggled with anxiety and OCD for many years and I have taken medication to help calm it down since 2015. I know the struggle of how hard anxiety can be in daily life. After I was officially diagnosed, I realized how much anxiety I actually dealt with when I was little. Anxiety is a daily struggle for me, but as I learned how to cope with it, I also learned that it makes me who I am. I am able to emphasize with people more and I'm more sensitive to the world. I love those parts of me, so in some ways I am happy for the way anxiety has shaped me.
I think it's important to express that mental health struggles don't always have to be negative and that things always do get better! There is no shame in taking medication or going to therapy because those things can be very beneficial. I sometimes do beat myself up for taking medication because I feel like I shouldn't have to rely on medication to function everyday, but it's the same thing for physical problems. No one is going to shame a diabetic for having to take insulin! The brain is just another organ that we have to take care of!
Remember to take care of yourself and always be kind to yourself as well. There is no shame in struggling and there are always people who love you! ❤️
