Panic Disorder or Just Guilt?
I have never known anyone w/a panic problem or social anxiety, but I am beginning to wonder if I have a panic problem, or maybe it is just guilt from my past that is sneaking up on me now. Over the past 2 years I have been having issues w/leaving far away from my home - now it's gotten to the point where I look on my gage where it tells me how many more miles I have left depending on the gas I have in my tank - I start panicking when it gets to about 45 miles and I'm nowhere near a gas staion. That's why I fill up my tank when I go see my dad b/c he lives in the country by the farms. I get paranoid being outside of my city b/c I overreact thinking something may happen, for example, what if I have a seizure and I'm nowhere near my doctor? I am becoming a little claustrophobic .. I don't like elevators and small places that I don't know. Is this panic, or it is just my past creeping up on me? I am 31 now and I have done a lot of dumb and crazy things in my late teens/early 20's, so is it just the trauma from that just coming back to me as I'm getting older? How do you get rid of that?
@TransAm85 It sounds like a panic disorder to me (I suffer from anxiety and frequently experience panic attacks).
My judgement may be affected by the fact that I don't know what traumatic past/guilt you have experienced but it could be both?
Trauma and guilt can cause panic disorders x
@IronicSarcasm That's what I am thinking .. that I have developed a panic problem. When I was younger, I did a lot of stupid things .. I thought I was invincible and I rebelled a lot b/c I didn't grow up w/both parents - I just recently started seeing my father. So, I just don't want to leave far from the city I live in. I went to Mexico this past December and I was having some issues. I kept blacking out b/c first of all, I missed home and I was in an unfamiliar area, and the mountains/hills scared me .. Mexico City's altitude made me dizzy .. It is a pretty country, but I need help w/coping w/traveling. I was deathly scared on the airplane. My husband thinks this is just a joke and can easily be fixed but how? I literally get nervous when I am in distant areas .. there's a lot of farm towns in my state, but I live in the main city and sometimes it's nice to go to the lakes and camping but .. I feel so anxious and nervous away from civilization! What do I do?
@TransAm85 I won't give you my mindfulness tips and tricks because they don't always work for everyone, I would definitely suggest talking to a professional and in the mean time read up on mindfulness exercises and meditation because they are amazing when you're in a state of panic! Also, I'm from the UK and the NHS have a website called moodjuice which is very informative!!!! Good luck x
