also if anyone would be willing to talk to me about how to deal with some bad intrusive thoughts i’d be so grateful they’re eating me up inside
What exactly ppl tell you you are OCD
@pluckyMango3064 Hi Mango!
It can be very tricky with OCD since it can mimic other disorders. My OCD was found after I went to a specialists for a completely different disorder based on self diagnosis. Luckily the specialist caught it very quickly, and I was able to get the right help (ERP therapy, etc).
The diagnosis process was a very long test for what your obsessions are and how bad/what type of compulsions you are experiencing (purely mental ones being the least obvious). However, that can only be made by a professional because of differential diagnoses.
For intrusive thoughts they can be debilitating and all consuming because they make you doubt what is real or not 😔 OCD is nicknamed the "doubting disorder" for that reason. My compulsions have been easier to manage, but trying another form of therapy for the intrusive thoughts (I-CBT) rather than just ERP.
Have a post about it here: https://www.7cups.com/forum/SupportPlus_205/ObsessiveCompulsiveDisorderSupport_1097/CBTERPandICBTOhmytohelpwithOCD_288385/
I hope you are able to find a therapist or support group, and we have an OCD community in the Support Plus Subcommunity! 😊
Here is the OCD taglist
We also have support sessions Wednesday 8pm EST. It is not required you be formally diagnosed with OCD (no gatekeeping here). We have people join whose family members have it or they are just wanting to learn and understand more. Hope to see you there!
I have ocd as well, but my parents won’t allow me to go to therapy. I’m thankful that I found 7 cups of tea, because I’m hoping online therapy will be just as effective.
