We often say ".....for now." How long is your "...for now"?

I feel like for me it's a comfort that I know too well isn't real but still it's real enough in that moment to create a hope for something that I wish I had but don't right now.

It's a forever sometimes, sometimes it's just one second. 

I think in my case for now would be as long as it needs to be. If I am saying I am working in fast food for now it means I am working there right now, but I hope to be somewhere else in the future. In other words it identifies the current situation as temporary.

For me, it's "for the moment" or "until something else happens". There's usually intention to change the situation or action at a later time. Till conditions become different.
