🚧 The Power of Saying No: How Has Setting Boundaries Changed You?
Hey everyone,
I’ve always been someone who prided myself on being “available.” I was the person people could rely on, the one who never said no—whether it was picking up extra shifts, helping friends move, or staying late to finish a project at work. I thought that’s what it meant to be a good friend, a good colleague, or just a good person in general.
But a few months ago, I hit a wall. I was completely burnt out. My relationships were suffering, I was constantly exhausted, and I just wasn’t present in any part of my life. It wasn’t until a close friend sat me down and asked, “When was the last time you did something just for yourself?” that I realized—I was over-committing because I didn’t know how to say no.
So, I started small. I began saying no to things that didn’t serve me or align with my values. It wasn’t easy, and honestly, it felt uncomfortable at first. I feared disappointing people, letting them down. But something shifted when I realized that by saying no, I was saying yes to my own well-being.
One example that stands out: A few weeks ago, I was invited to a social event that I knew I didn’t want to attend. In the past, I’d have gone anyway, out of guilt. This time, I politely declined, simply saying, “I need to rest tonight. I hope you understand.” To my surprise, there was no backlash, no hard feelings. In fact, it was the most peaceful evening I’d had in weeks.
Since then, setting boundaries has become a cornerstone of my life. It’s not about being selfish; it’s about self-respect. Saying no has allowed me to focus on what truly matters—my health, my family, my passions, and my own happiness.
So I’m curious:
How has setting boundaries or saying no changed you? Has it been empowering, or do you still struggle with it?
Would love to hear your thoughts and stories on how you’ve navigated the power of saying no.

@AloyXmachina7786 I still struggle with this, I don't want to come of has rude😕 and also because I'm disabled and I rely heavily on others to do most things for me. So yeah I have a huge problem with boundries
@Tinywhisper11 Me too. Big hugs, if wanted. 🫂
@Zeraphim always want hugs from you 💖💖
I struggle with this. Being also someone with disabilities, I fear if I say no to people who I rely on, they won't be there for me anymore, and then I'm left without the support I need to live.
@Zeraphim

@AloyXmachina7786 thank you, I too have struggled with boundaries, what excellent advice :)
@AloyXmachina7786 For me, learning to say no has been a slow process. At one point, I realized that constantly saying yes out of fear was making me unreliable to myself.
It hasn’t always been easy but it’s been worth it.
