Things People With Back Pain/Back Problems Wish You Knew

If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?

If you’re not on this journey, we welcome you to listen, learn, and ask respectful, good-faith questions! Open-ended questions are highly encouraged, as they give people the space to share their unique experiences in their own words. While this is a safe space to learn about things you’ve never experienced, please remember to be sensitive, and avoid sharing harmful stereotypes or debating someone's lived reality. If you have a question, ask it with empathy. If someone gently corrects you, please be open to learning. Let's have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation where we support one another, because it takes all sorts to make a world!

@jesusredeemedme2425 telling a child or adult with bad posture to sit straight is not going to do anything. We would if we could. Our backs have a problem that need active support like workouts and rehab. It's not an easy fix. And the headaches it causes are brutal.

I'm only speaking for myself and it's other body areas that spread the pain around and then it affects the back and when it gets really bad, there's no walking it off or sitting down to rest for a while that's going to solve it.

I need to lay down with heat applied and sleep it off because my whole body will seize up and I'll struggle to move without yelping.

Painkillers don't work, they aren't a magic cure for some of us.

Stress makes it ten times worse, that's why I avoid it where possible.

My body seems to have fun with it, because the pain doesn't stay in the initial location, it moves around all of me, until I can't hold it in anymore.

It's not an exaggeration to have to hold onto the walls or railings to keep upright, my legs are going to give way any moment.

If you see someone struggling to walk, give up your seat, they need it more than you do!

@jesusredeemedme2425 for me it hurts constantly and there's not much I can do about it🙁 I do get injections in my spine every few months which is a life saver cause the closer it gets to the next injections the more it seems to wear off and it's hard to move it just hurts so much. When your in constant pain it's hard to keep going to keep smiling, and fight of depression. That's why I joke around alot, making someone else smile somehow helps me alot😁💖

@jesusredeemedme2425

It can flare up at any moment.

So just because I wasn't in pain, doesn't mean I'm making it up now.

We put up with alot of pain before we ever even mention it.

The cold weather aggravates it massively.

It can be very exhausting.

And the pain cannot be measured so alot of the time, people feel like it's not as painful as we are saying, but trust me, it is 💙
