What is the best thing you've done for yourself this year?

As the new year and holidays approach, we spend time ruminating on the past year.

Its easy to remember the bad but it would be more rewarding to remember the good.

People usually only tend to think about academic/career achievements as the good. But self-love also falls into the good.

So, what have you done to increase your self-love this year? And what are you planning to do next year?

The best thing I did for my self-care this year was to prioritize myself. Not so much in a selfish manner, but I really did learn how to say "no" to things when needed. I also made some in-roads on *not* people-pleasing, in terms of feeling less guilty during the times at which I needed to assert myself.

For next year, I really want more of the same--just a natural progression. Basically, I always want to feel like I'm growing and changing (for the better) as a person.

@sereneSunset26 Thanks for sharing. What you've achieved right now is one of my goals. I tend to be such a people-pleaser and I don't mind if it negatively affects me. I want to grow out from that mindset. Kudos to you!

I feel you there, totally. Especially with going ahead and putting others' needs in front of our own, even in the face of negative consequences for ourselves.

It would be interesting for me to know how much of this was/is personality, and how much of it was due to how I was raised. Because certainly, my parents unfortunately did contribute to it, but I also feel like there is some natural element in my personality that is just native to who I am.

Either way, I think I'm just going to continue to have to strike a balance going forward.

I am not good at asking for help or letting people help me.

I get called stubborn often.

I am trying to work on letting other people take care of me.

It has been challenging for me but I am getting better at it.

I joined this website. I joined a church community.

@comfortableNight4463 As December and therefore the new year approaches I wanted to revisit this thread :)

The best thing I've done for myself this year is ....keep going! I may not have done it so gracefully but I've kept moving forward even when I felt like I was standing still. I hope I make myself proud next year as I move forward into much larger things 💙
