I still haven’t gotten passed my mom overdosing and dying
I am 26 and feel like a lost little girl in Walmart scared trying to find her mommy. Except my mom won’t be coming to the front of the store to come save me.
hey @secretNest3868, firstly welcome to 7 Cups, i'm really glad you found your way here. Reaching out when you are hurting like this takes so much strength, and you deserve a space where you don't have to hold it all alone.
What you wrote is heart-breaking, and it makes sense that you would feel lost. Losing your mom in such a sudden and traumatic way leaves a kind of emptiness that is hard to put into words. That analogy you shared truly captures the grief so honestly. When the person who was supposed to be your safe place is gone, it can leave you feeling untethered, unsure where to stand and unsure how to move forward.
I lost my mum last year, and even though the circumstances were different, I really relate to that feeling of being small and overwhelmed in a world that suddenly feels too big. Grief doesn't care about age, it can make a grown adult feel like a child again, reaching out for someone who isn't there. Particularly, when a loss is tied to something as painful as an overdose, it adds layers of shock, anger, confusion and heartbreak that are unimaginable.
You're not supposed to be 'over' this. You don't have to have it all figured out. You are grieving someone who shaped your life, and that kind of loss doesn't stick to timeframes.
You're more than welcome to stay in the forums and talk as much as you need. If you ever want someone to listen 1:1, you can also reach out to a listener for a private chat, but there is no pressure.
If you'd like to and feel comfortable, I'd love to hear more about who your mom was as a person and your favourite memory together💜
