My grandfather and now my uncle

A few months ago I lost my grandfather to a heart attack. This week I lost my uncle to heart disease as well. And though I’m pretty much as healed as I’m gonna get from my grandfather, my uncle is a different story. He would babysit me as a kid for my parents, whom I never got to really see ever, because they worked so often and I had a bedtime. So it was usually wake up, my mum takes me to school, i stay after school for like a afterschool daycare thing. They’d pick me up, I had like one or two hours to play and hangout with them, but of course they we’re tired from work, and I usually was neglected in the child-parent bounding thing. On the weekends, sometimes if I was lucky id go to work with them and their coworkers would watch me. But most the time, i went to the house my uncle and grandma lived in. It was in the same neighborhood we lived in, within walking distance. Not that I ever really walked there by my self as a 7-12 year old. Him and my grandmother were there for me. When my parents weren’t.

He also was a huge music person. I was supposed to learn guitar from him, but that never really happened, I gravitated towards my electric bass more. And when i was at the hospital, the first time, he said i was the coolest kid he knew and that I’m the coolest bassist he knows and that when he gets better we would make music and start a band together.

The last actually conversation i had with him was saying i love you and goodbye because i was leaving the hospital, and driving back to my state because i had school. I gave him a hug, and that was the last time I talked to him when he was him.

I was in the hospital when he died. They said they were turning off his matchines. I was going to go in the room but he looked so sick and was coughing and wasn’t awake and I couldn’t handle it. I stayed outside the room. And waited. It was awful. It was silent and youd hear him wheezing. His death was not painless.

He was an amazing person. From my experience, he loved music and loved to cook. He made the best damn spaghetti I’ve ever had. And ill never have it again. Its so weird. Two months ago he was here at the house hanging out and he seemed fine. Now hes gone. I miss him.

@Thatweebgirl Hi I'm Celine :) I never understood how hard losing someone could be until I lost my grandmother this past year. She practically raised me, similar to how your grandparents raised you. Death is hard to comprehend, at least for me, because it's so definitive. My advice is to let yourself feel everything- all the sad emotions and all the happy memories. Live your life how they would want you to, and remember that time truly heals everything.

@Thatweebgirl

I am so sorry for your losses and it is so difficult what you are going through especially with several losses in a short amount of time because it then brings all of your sadness back again. It sounds like you are processing how it feels for you and I am glad you are here right now letting us know how you feel. Over time, hopefully, things get easier for you and know there is no place to be when you are grieving, where you are right now is where you are meant to be. Try to take good care of yourself too and remember the good moments like the spaghetti your Uncle made you and the time spent with your Grandfather.

Feeling better starts with a single message. Check out my profile and reviews.
