Saying goodbye
My dog is sick and I know I’ll have to put him down soon. The anxiety and grief is awful. I feel guilty.
@mustluvdogs
You have my deepest and sincerest condolences. Losing a pet is an extremely difficult hardship to experience. You may be feeling overwhelmed with guilt and anxiety, but it's important that you understand that it is perfectly normal and acceptable to feel whatever you are feeling. You are on the verge of losing a close companion, so the heartache you will feel during this time may be extremely heavy to bear.
I encourage you to seek support from close loved ones such as friends and family. You are not alone in your grief. Your dog is loved and because of that, you have a heavy responsibility to carry. Please let others help carry it with you. Understand that you are doing what you think is best, and provide yourself with grace and empathy, even if that choice leaves you with guilt.
I have a similar situation, 3 years ago, tomorrow actually (we put her down June 1), where I had to put my childhood dog down. It was a heartbreaking experience and the grief that wracked my body is not something I can quite explain. It will be hard, you will miss your friend, you might blame yourself for not trying hard enough. But know this: You did try, you were there for them, and that is enough. They will know that you love them when you struggle to let them go.
What is grief but love persevering?
You can do this. You have the strength in your heart. Believe in yourself and remember to be kind to yourself. Grief is a terrible journey but there is a type of peace that can be found in it.
Thank you, it’s incredibly hard
