Encouragement Committee!
Do you remember the first time you tried out a support room? How easy was it to get involved in the conversation? Did you feel heard and cared for? What kind of things did others do to help you feel welcome and part of the community?
We really want to ensure that all our support room users feel welcomed and encouraged by the community. With this in mind, Id like to try out an Encouragement Committee!
This is a new project and everyone is welcome to get involved! Mods, listeners and members alike. Its really simple! Keep reading to learn more.....
What Do I Need To Do?
- Look out for newcomers in the support room. Say hello and provide a warm welcome!
- Make an effort to learn more about people. What brings them to the room today? How are they feeling? How is their day going?
- Pay attention to those trying to share in the rooms and be sure to acknowledge them. - Talking in the support room can feel incredibly daunting - a warm, friendly face can make all the difference. Let others know youve got their back!
- Encourage one another. Any time you see someone being brave, or honest, or strong - let them know theyre doing great!
POST BELOW IN THE THREAD IF YOU'RE IN!
You can also share any other ideas you have for helping people to feel welcomed, safe and cared for in the support rooms. Tell us how it goes for you! Did you make a difference to anyones day? Every smile helps!
Sounds amazing! I'll do what I can! :)
Yay! I'm in ❤
YES! Count me in :D
In. The problem with welcoming everyone and asking people about themselves is that you can do that it's really difficult to do that for any more than a couple people, then you're already in a conversation. Unless your job is just to say HI to everyone and follow-up only when you're not talking to anyone else.
@ShawnL
I don't think its a big deal to pause the conversation and acknowledge the arrival of someone. I don't think everyone has to acknowledge them but a few in the room should take a moment We will never know the difference this can make.
@FerlinCletus Acknowledge, yes. Asking everyone how their day is while already listening to other people, that may cause people do devalue the conversation. In any case, erring on the side of TOO MUCH welcoming is certainly better than too little :)
Totally! This is awesome. c: I'm definitely in.
im in
Sounds good, I'm in
A good thing I believe would make things even better:
- Keep Asking Questions.
Doing that will make others know you're interested as well as keep the conversation going and counter silence.
Also try to ask everyone if the question can be general so it would encourage others to contribute instead of just branching one convo with one person for too long and making others/newcomers be left behind or feel like they're missing out. Remember, it's a GROUP chat.
@Planet - Brilliant yes!
I agree, its really hard to properly join some chats
DEFINITELY in!!
