Leading a Quiz/Trivia Night

Hello all amazing group mods out there !

Quiz/Trivia nights are one of the most cherished attractions in member rooms ! Aren't they? They are fun, engaging, learning new infos and all !!! Sounds great and yes, it is !

While they are super cool, they can be a bit tricky at times too ! Today I want to share about some of such moments of quiz/trivia nights that you might encounter while leading one and how to deal with them gracefully !

1. The first and foremost thing is to remember that though you're asking quizzes and members and listeners are trying to answer them as quickly as possible to grab a point, this is a fun event. There will be competition amon participants, but please don't let that competition rule over the fun and joy of that hour. Tell to the room that it's a fun event and they are all here to enjoy.

2. Encourage everyone to join and attempt to answer to the trivias/quizzes, even if they aren't an expert on that topic. This creates a friendly atmosphere and participants feel connected and confident that they are welcomed in the room whole-heartedly.

3. When one participant gives the correct answer first, congratulate them. But also make sure to congratulate and motivate all other participants in regular intervals. It might seem less important to you sometimes, but it's reallt important to ensure that all participants are enjoying the event.

4. Set some rules and follow that. For example- if you choose to give point to the participant who answer with correct spelling/full name first, stick to it throughout the event. Don't enforce that rule one time and slide by that in the next time. When needed, don't hesitate to divide points among two participants or ignore any question that created some confusion or disaggreeement among participants. You must be trustworthy and fair to all the participants. right?

5. It's okay to apologise if you make some mistake to see who answered correctly in the first and some member point it out to you. These chats often move very fast. A gentle apology and rectifying mistake create respect for you among the participants.

6. It's good not to talk about who is leading in points at any mid-stage of the quiz, that's discouraging for many pericipants that they are lagging behind. Even if some members talk about it, continue friendly atmosphere throughout. The fun and engagement among all are the priorities of the event.

7. You'll find often in quiz nights that some members are talking about 'googling' or accusing others of 'googling' the answers. This can be hurtful to many particpants who genuinely know the answer themselves. But don't engage in any conflict. Rather say something like this, "We trust that all our particpants are trying to answer by themselves and they have pretty amazing knowledge on many subjects. You're all awesome and it's more of a fun and much less of a competition. Are we ready for the next question?" (modify it or say something of your own wish)

8. And of course, you know the role of group mods in general. That is true for quiz/trivia nights as well !
