Attention All Mods!

I wanted to let you know about a few updates to the chat room rules in Group Support. These rule changes are a reflection of various issues we've noticed in the rooms recently. Thank you to those who helped figure these out in our last mod meeting :)

Here they are! I have also included examples of when these warnings should be used.

New Rules Added:

"Please refrain from initiating or participating in discussion about religion or politics."
The primary focus in these rooms should be support. Lately, we've noticed an increase in heated debates over these topics and at this time we need to draw a line on these areas.

Examples:
"What do you think about Donald Trump?"
"Who are you voting for?"
"I don't think your religion is correct. There are many problems with it."

"Please ensure you do not have a profile picture or username that is graphic, abusive or inappropriate in nature."
We understand that sometimes a new user may not realise this would be a problem, so there will be three warnings given allowing time for the member to make necessary changes.

Note: Members can change their username in "settings" for up to 2 weeks after joining. Please let the member know that they can do this. If a member has been here for more than 2 weeks, you can direct them to mail community@7cups.com for help changing their username. They will need to refrain from participating in the support rooms until they have an appropriate username to avoid receiving further warnings.

"To ensure a positive environment in group support, all users must be sober to participate."
This rule isn't new, however anyone found to be breaking this rule will now receive an instant mute rather than 3 warnings.

Example: "I'm so drunk right now."

Additionally, we've updated the rule on drugs and medications to:

"Please do not give advice on, or recommend drugs or medication to others. This can be harmful."
This change is due to feedback that sometimes members might mention taking a medication and receive a warning, which felt unfair in certain cases. Specifically, it is recommending drugs or medication to others that we need to prevent for safety reasons.

Example: "You should try XX, it worked for me."

As always, the goal is to ensure a safe and supportive environment in the rooms :)
