People in chat are ignoring others

I see a lot of ignoring in the chat rooms. I see a bunch of members chatting about trivial things, like 'pooping' and video games ect, but when others come in to chat about a particular subject of issue, they are ignored.

If you are not there to give support or to get support, then go to facebook or somewhere else!!!

Too much casualchat in the support rooms, I recently got ignored and I think there should be a rule preventing people from getting off topic, It's better to focus on one thing at once. We have chats solelyfor light hearted discussion there's no need for it in support.

Hi. It seems that people ignore you in the chat rooms I'd they don't know you. I went in a depression chat the other day and to me, I felt like I was a drowning person in a pool and everyone just stood around just watching me drown. I was just trying to reach out for someone to talk with. I really needed someone and no one acknowledged me.

Yeah, I get you. I've just gone onto a group chat just now and I've been ignored to begin with and now I'm just feeling a bit intimidated because they all seem to know each other. I'm just not really sure what to say now.

I agree, but I think it tend to vary in which chat is with who, because some are so focused in a chat, then when a new person joins they barely notice, but othertimes, a person would notice, and the new person would feel included

Hi all!

I think there are always 2 sides to the story. I will often people come in and issue one word comments such as "Hi" or "Hello" and maybe get one or two responses from someone.

My golden rule is that the more you say the more people can respond to

Because what often happens is that people will respond with a hi or hello back then resume the present conversation. The way to get the best out of the situation is say more, for example like: "Hello, how is everyone?"

That's a conversation starter and ismuch more likely to get a response from a much larger audience. If you simply say hello people might not think you're interested in talking to them.

Put more into the conversation, get more out of the conversation.

There are some times when the chat is incredibly busy, and there is the off chance that you're comment might not be seen. Please don't take this to heart! It happens to many people and sometimes simply can't be helped.

I totally understand the feeling when everybody appears to know each other and then there's just you. Everyone on the site has felt like that at one point. But when we reach out bravely, that is when we make connections, make friends, and people have something to recognise us for.

If this is something that causes youanxiety, then don't hesitate to contact a Moderator about it, so they can help you about the specific situation. Sometimes people feel the need to be wanted in the chatroom before they can comfortably participate.

With the chatrooms, yes sometimes there are disagreements, arguments but it ismostly supportive in there, we just tend to pay more attention to the negative for a plethora of reasons.

I'm not on the Teen side, but if you ever have any concerns regardingthe Adult memberchatrooms I'm a Group Moderator and you can always confide in me whatever issue you face. I will make the time to listen.

Sorry to hear your bad experiences people, I hope they improve! Just remember my golden rule, and always try to speak up!

Best wishes,

Zedda

I feel that way too sometimes. I go in and say hi and ask how everyone is and I get ignored. It can be really discouraging :/...

I'm sorry that this happens to you... I am a trained listener and i see this happen as well. I try to talk to as many people as i can put it is hard to give everyone my attention. It mostly leads to members getting really mad for being ignored, which is not something we are intentionally doing. It is best to request 1-on-1 chats

I personally think that they should not be ignored since the support rooms are usually small (10-15 ppl). Some people might also be facing suicidalsituation which we should all recognize and help them!

I actually find the Support Group Chatroom very helpful. Most answers I see posted, I now either answer myself or someone else does. Sometimes the chat lags so some of the questions are delayed but for the most part they do their best to answer all questions.

Sorry you guys felt that you were being ignored or not getting the help you need.

I agree, I've found a lot of helpful people in chat. I have seen chat rooms not so helpful some times so I just check another room in a such a case. This place is amazing in so many ways for me. :)

Yeah, some people in the chat support do ignore you or can be really rude and disrectful to others for no reason. I think this site needs better moderation or more options to prevent this from happening to listeners.

I try personally to say hi to everyone that comes into the chat... but there is massive lag issues sometimes and messages don't get seen. It is frustrating, especially when someone feels they're being ignored. The chat rooms have helped me massively and I really wish everyone else can feel the same way.
