Difference between Sharing Circle and Healthy Habits

We initiated Healthy Habits in the last week (Sept 21, 2020) in an effort to provide additional support to the community along with Sharing Circle Sessions.

We’ve received some input which reflects that “Healthy Habits” is not as clear as it should be for all. So, this post is focused on outlining the difference between Sharing Circle sessions and Healthy Habits sessions.

Healthy Habits is a theme-based Sharing Circle. An uninterrupted space where shares are focused on the small steps one is taking to cope with hardships and develop as a person. These steps could be anything -- steps to handle a tough situation one may be experiencing, steps to deal with stressors, steps to develop new habits, steps to cope up with addictions, steps to improve relationships, and so on!

On the other hand, Sharing Circle is a general space where one shares how they are feeling or what’s on their mind today, it is an uninterrupted space that lets you share anything you are going through. These shares can be happy, sad, recent events, old events, or anything really that’s going on your mind!

However, we stated that every member gets only 3-5 minutes to share their thoughts so we can accommodate everyone to provide inclusive support in a 60-minute session.

A problem needs to be solved, right? So, Sharing Circle lets you share the problem while a Healthy Habit session allows you to focus on a solution or the small steps you are working on to feel better and find the solution. This is the basic difference between the two sessions.

Apart from that the framework, structure of sharing, and guidelines are the same to ensure the sharer gets better support and listening ears.

Why are there 12 Healthy Habits sessions like Sharing Circles?

To have better and aligned support. As you know we are a global community and there are members who join us from different time zones. To ensure everyone gets a chance to participate and gets support through these sessions, we paired them with sharing circle sessions. Everyone is able to join and experience the support in both the sharing circle and healthy habit sessions and make positive progress in their lives.

Thank you!

Also, thank you to all who are hosting these sessions (Assigned Hosts, On-spot Hosts), participants, and the sharers. Because you all are creating a collaborative community participation culture in a structured way where everyone is welcomed and encouraged to share. This is why we are encouraging you to host these sessions. Sharing Circle room is your space, Sharing circle and Healthy Habits are your sessions. You are all doing amazing by listening and supporting each other.

All the sharers are taking significant steps by joining the queue and sharing. Because you are not only sharing your thoughts and experiences but also you are inspiring and encouraging someone in the room to join the queue to share their thoughts as well. You are making a difference.

These sessions are meant to develop a community culture where Hosts are from the community, Participants are the Community, Supporters are the Community, and that way everyone can feel involved and feel the impact they are doing in the community.

For the community, By the community & With the community!

I hope this has clarified what Healthy Habits are, how they differ from Sharing Circle, and why we have them.
