The Hobby Zone - Check-in Oct 3-9 - It's time to Smile?
Hello my fellow Hobby Zoners!
This coming Friday marks World Smile Day. Which can be a great day to commit random acts of kindness and spread smiles to those around you. Our hobbies can be a wonderful way to share kindness with others and give us reasons to smile as well. With that in mind:
-
What’s one thing that has given you a reason to smile recently? What do you think made it so?
-
What hobby makes you feel the most like smiling?
-
What is your favourite way to make others smile? How might you put one of your hobbies to use in making others smile? (Here’s a thought, did you make any cards for world card making day?)
Hearing about your hobbies and things that make you smile certainly brings joy to my day so I hope you will share your answers! Perhaps you can even get a head start on adding more smiles this week?

What’s one thing that has given you a reason to smile recently? What do you think made it so?
My dog sunbathing upside down lol! She loves the sunshine :)
-
What hobby makes you feel the most like smiling?
When a painting turns out how I envisaged it. Watercolor can be temperamental sometimes so the final picture is always a gamble lol!
-
What is your favourite way to make others smile? How might you put one of your hobbies to use in making others smile? (Here’s a thought, did you make any cards for world card making day?
Tarot cards, putting a smile on people's faces, it's the magic in misty magic.

@MistyMagic
Pets can definitely be an excellent source of smiles, and photo ops! Do you try to take pictures of every cute moment of sunbathing or just being a dog?
As to the joy of seeing our ideas materialize on the canvas is definitely a smile worthy feeling! Watercolour is indeed a challenging medium which can make that success even sweeter!
Sounds like you have some smile magic indeed! Thank you for checking in and hopefully getting caught up in smiling with us all!

What’s one thing that has given you a reason to smile recently? What do you think made it so?
My frog thought I put food in her tank (when I really gave her more water) so she was looking around for the crickets she thought I put in.

What hobby makes you feel the most like smiling?
Drawing/painting

What is your favourite way to make others smile? How might you put one of your hobbies to use in making others smile? (Here’s a thought, did you make any cards for world card making day?)
Complimenting them or drawing/paintine them a picture.
@chaiteeeeeeeaaaaaaa
Aww, pets certainly seem to be an endless source of smiles, even when it's the cuteness of disappointment when they think we've offered up a treat or food. Although I find then I usually break down and get them a treat anyway, do you find you do that too?
Drawing and painting sound like great reasons to smile!
Also I agree compliments can be a way to make others smile, particularly when it is on something they have created and poured that bit of themselves into.
Thank you for checking in and hopefully sharing a smile or two with us!

What’s one thing that has given you a reason to smile recently? What do you think made it so?
My friend showed me a funny comic strip related to my job (call center work), it made me smile because he thought of me, and shared it with me, it was very funny! An old comic strip with a cat saying you got to make calls if you want to get results, lol...he didn't even know my company's name is Results CX

What hobby makes you feel the most like smiling?
Video games, but I want to read and draw more, maybe write more too. Games make me want to smile the most though, so I guess there's nothing wrong with that!
What is your favorite way to make others smile? How might you put one of your hobbies to use in making others smile? (Here’s a thought, did you make any cards for world card making day?) I didn't know about world card making day, but I paint postcards for my 6-year-old sometimes, and should really make some time tomorrow to do a new one! This is definitely my favorite way of making people smile, when I can paint something they enjoy
@ThadSterling
It is nice to have others think of us in those sort of seemingly random ways. Not to mention that sounds like a cute comic strip, and the coincidence with the name of your company definitely sounds like it made it even funnier.
Video gaming can be fun, and feel more like playing and smiling, so that makes sense to me. We can enjoy reading and drawing but they perhaps feel more serious or focused and give a wider range of emotion? Each has it's value and qualities, so if video games give you the biggest grin, I'm glad!
I'm sure your 6-year-old cherishes each postcard you made, and I hope you will be able to find time to make another. Just the thought is making me smile. Do you have a favourite type of image to paint?
Thank you for checking in, and adding to our smiles!
@EmotionsListener
Hello! Hope you're having an excellent Monday! My favourite day of the week 😮😸
What’s one thing that has given you a reason to smile recently? What do you think made it so?
My close friends! They're always trying to make me smile by sharing positive words or funny jokes or just simply spending time with me. I appreciate them a huge amount 💙
What hobby makes you feel the most like smiling?
Art, particularly just making little doodles in my sketchbook, with no plan in mind or any criticism - just an anything goes mindfulness book of random drawings. This particular book I'm not allowed to make any negative comments, it's just a space for positive feelings and acceptance 🐈
What is your favourite way to make others smile? How might you put one of your hobbies to use in making others smile? (Here’s a thought, did you make any cards for world card making day?)
Definitely making drawings for people! I absolutely love drawing something for someone, and making it personal to them, sometimes it's something sweet and sometimes it's something funny or something I just know they'll love. My closest friend always adores receiving any kind of artwork, and I adore giving it to her! 😺
@SleepyShyCat
So, what makes Monday your favourite day of the week?
Friends can be a wonderful source of smiles, I'm glad you are able to share laughter, smiles and quality time with your friends!
Art can be a lovely outlet to make us smile, doodling away with out plan or direction just letting creativity have free reign sounds great! I also love that you make a point to set aside that internal critic and make a space where there is no judgment just creativity, positivity and acceptance!
I'm glad your friend appreciates all those wonderful gifts you make for her! It sounds like you make lots of lovely drawings!
Thank you for giving us all more to smile about and checking in!

@EmotionsListener
For whatever reason my schedule on Mondays has always been a good one, it changes each year usually but I don't think I've ever had a bad schedule on a Monday 😮 so that makes the day good 😸 this year I have both therapy on a monday (always feel lighter afterwards) and I spend the rest of the day with my closest friend which really boosts my mood for the week 😄
@EmotionsListener
Hello EmotionsListener! 😊
What’s one thing that has given you a reason to smile recently? What do you think made it so? I got a new work project and I'm really looking forward to working with my new client. This has made me happy all day.
What hobby makes you feel the most like smiling? Good question. I think I like meditation lately.
What is your favourite way to make others smile? Help them with a difficult task or cook a delicious meal for them.
How might you put one of your hobbies to use in making others smile? (Here’s a thought, did you make any cards for world card making day?) I made a card for my Hobby Zone team last weekend, and thought I would post it here today. Please click on this link and you can see the card I made.
By the way, that's a heartwarming dog picture. Thanks for sharing. 💜
@Helpingheart23
Sounds like an exciting new project, I'm glad you are looking forward to it and that work is something that makes you smile!
Meditation sounds very calming, I'm glad you are enjoying it. What would you say you enjoy most about it?
Helping others and cooking for them sound like wonderful ways to bring a smile to the faces of others. Also the card you made for the team is beautiful! I'm sure it has brought a smile to the faces of our whole team!
Thank you for checking in. I'm glad you liked the dog smiling away, perhaps this will be another smile you can enjoy today?

@EmotionsListener
Thank you so much for your good wishes 😊 I feel that meditation helps me a lot in coping with daily stress. It keeps me calm and focused. I'm glad you like the card, and thank you for sharing the image, it made me smile.💛

@Helpingheart23 I love that card, thank-you! Maybe post it here too so that the team can see it more easily?
Also meditation - is that a hobby I wonder. I find meditation very helpful in all kinds if situations. I actually meditate in the dentist's chair lol! They almost have to wake me.

@MistyMagic
Thank you, Misty! That's really sweet of you 💙
I've already added the link in my previous reply of this post and tagged all the members of our team in another post (Compliment Garden - pg 6) click here
As weird as it sounds, yes, meditation is indeed a hobby. Lol. What you just shared was hilarious 😂 I'm glad it's been helping you 😊
@Helpingheart23 Then maybe we need to start a thread in Hobbies as therapy about meditation?

What’s one thing that has given you a reason to smile recently? What do you think made it so?
I had my godkids this past weekend and I was looking at the photos and videos I took while they were with me. These kids will never know or understand how much they save me. It really should be the other way around, but it's not. I think I smiled looking at the photos and videos because this past weekend while other things were going on in the background, I was happy. Happiness has been rare for me these past few months.
What hobby makes you feel the most like smiling?
It'll definitely be photography for me. I like to shoot on film so when I get a photo with all the right settings and angles, it's definitely worth a smile. Lol, film ain't cheap and getting the right shot is gold.
What is your favourite way to make others smile? How might you put one of your hobbies to use in making others smile? (Here’s a thought, did you make any cards for world card making day?)
I used to, back when I was my old self, take photos when I would spend time with family and friends. When a photo comes out featuring a memorable moment or brings out certain qualities about someone, I would print it out on canvas and give it to them.
@jcqlinshots
I'm glad you were able to spend some time with your godkids, sometimes it does seem like they don't know what gift they are to our lives, but sometimes we don't know what a gift we are to theirs either. So I'm sure they appreciate you as much as you them, and hopefully you will find more moments of happiness once more.
Film definitely makes it more important to get the shot right, and has the delay of not knowing if you did or not until it's developed. I can see how that process with the anticipation and unveiling could be a source of smiles!
That sounds like a lovely gift that you have given to others. It's rare I have a photo like that, but when you find one it really can mean so much.
Thank you for checking in, I hope you keep making the most of film and get lots of beautiful pictures to enjoy and make you smile as well as share with others.
What’s one thing that has given you a reason to smile recently?
Finch app
What do you think made it so?
I don't know. Maybe because it's kind of fun.
What hobby makes you feel the most like smiling?
Maybe weaving?
What is your favourite way to make others smile?
Generosity!
How might you put one of your hobbies to use in making others smile? (Here’s a thought, did you make any cards for world card making day?)
I could weave gifts for people...

@EmotionsListener
@Dallady
Hmm, I'd never heard of Finch app before, so had to look that up, that actually sounds like it would be a fun app and a great way to encourage self care and healthy habits. Hope it continues to make you smile!
Weaving is a great hobby! I haven't had much of a weaving loom since I was a child, though now I'm tempted to use my beading loom and some fine yarn to have a bit of fun! What sort of weaving projects are your favourite?
Generosity can definitely be a great way to bring a smile to the faces of others! I'm sure if you were to weave gifts for others they would love them!
Thank you for checking in and sharing a smile with us.

Making my bracelets and also finding out who my true friends are.

Making art out of recyclable objects:)

What is your favorite way to make others smile? How might you put one of your hobbies to use in making others smile? (Here’s a thought, did you make any cards for world card making day?)
I like to compliment people and I don't know yet. Trying to figure it out though. And no- I didn't. Didn't even know it was a thing haha
@anunblessedmess
Making bracelets and knowing your true friends seem like good ways to smile, do you make friendship bracelets by any chance?
Recycling things into art can certainly be a fun activity, it's cool to reimagine and repurpose things, and then your recycle bin is also your craft bin!
Compliments can often bring a smile to another's face. I find that different people have different things that make them smile, so it can take time to learn and figure out more ideas, I know sometimes even just posting here seems to bring a smile to other's faces.
Thank you for checking in and joining the search for smiles!
