Hey everyone!

🕊️ Happy World Peace Day! 🕊️

I just wanted to send you all happy and peaceful thoughts and see what you are doing.

Hobbies are one way we can peacefully spend time either alone or together.

What is your hobby?

How are you feeling about your hobbies right now? I know that things are getting more expensive but hobbies and interests are very important and can really make us feel better and serve as mental health maintenance. So, a little cost goes a long way.

What tips have you got on trimming prices and making things go further?

I know that my art paper is going up in price so I have started making it go further and concentrating on using the right paper for the right piece of work. I use a lesser quality paper for practice sessions rather than my favorite ( Arches 100% cotton, pre-stretched) and I have found other ways too. I no longer wipe down my palette after each painting I re-use the paint and have started using small ceramic and porcelain plates for mixing colors so I can re-use them.

Happy World Peace Day! ☮️

I just wanted to send you all happy and peaceful thoughts and see what you are doing.

Awww, thank you very much. I've been working late since Monday (only this week) due to a work project outside of Cups, and I can't wait for that to be over soon (today) so I can sleep well, and get up at the right time tomorrow to focus on my hobbies.

What is your hobby?

My hobbies for this week are baking, and walking for 30 minutes 3x this week. 🍰🚶‍♀️

How are you feeling about your hobbies right now?

I'm looking forward to it cause it would definitely make my day better.

What tips have you got on trimming prices and making things go further?

Look for cheaper but better alternatives, and use things you already have at home 😉

P. s. I 💖 your art. It's beautiful! I also like your choice of colors. Looking at peaceful images like this really brings me joy on a hectic day. Thank you for sharing this painting, Misty.

Let's make art, not war!

Regarding cost-cutting...

I used to employ Arches too, but since the value of my country's currency dropped almost to zero, prices of 300g 100% cotton paper became utterly unaffordable.

I started buying a much cheaper Chinese brand "Baohong", with good results.

The Chinese invented paper, after all. They have a couple thousand years of experience...

Also, Winsor & Newton has a manufacturing plant in China, which sells watercolors in that domestic market (which is huge). They are not fake, but much cheaper and almost the same quality as the UK Cotman line. They can also be bought from Aliexpress.

Here is a comparison of Winsor & Newton watercolors, Chinese vs. UK Cotman: https://youtu.be/40D-jsap0Eg

@MistyMagic

I hope you had a lovely World Peace Day!

As for saving money while still having fun with my hobbies, I have a few strange things I often do to reduce waste.

For example I keep all the old bits of yarn I trim off projects in a tin, I can use those bits when working on other projects as stitch markers and even as stuffing for amigurumi.

Similarly I have a collection of fabric scraps from my sewing - pieces that are large enough for say doll clothes or small items go in one pile, and the other scraps get used as sewing tests and yep more stuffing for crochet or other creations.

But perhaps one of the strangest is what I was looking at the other day while colouring - I keep all the pencil shavings from my coloured pencils. I use them to make sort of 3-D art sometimes, If I want to make a textural "fish" or "bird" or even a flower those pencil shavings can make great scales, feathers or petals.

So I guess I regularly use 'found' materials in new ways, of find second purposes for things that may otherwise be scrap/trash.
