How did you get into your hobby?
Hey friends!
I'm interested to know how each one of you got into their hobbies! How did you find that hobby? Or did perhaps that hobby find you?
I'll go first!
I enjoy writing and music a lot as they've helped with my mental health tremendously, in fact, that's how I got into writing in the first place!
A few years ago, I was not in the best place mentally, at that time, I didn't even realize mental health was a thing, until I did my research and began to understand what I was feeling and how to help it.
I tried writing out my thoughts, and then those thoughts turned into songs and poems, and since then, I never stopped writing, especially music.
How did you get into your hobby?
that is such a cool hobby and how you found it! my hobbies are swimming and rollerskating, i am currently trying to find more hobbies but that's all! i've been swimming and rollerskating since i was little and it kind of just stuck with me while i got older 😁
I got into crochet 8 years ago when I was pregnant with my eldest. I saw a really cute crochet baby mobile and decided to make it. Lots of trial and error over the years but it’s really therapeutic and helps keep my hands busy 😊
Got forced into music when I was about 4, both my parents being musicians/teachers. Playing a couple instruments and all. Hated it back then, but I did learn to appreciate it as time went by.
@YourInternetBuddy well i sing and play guitar and were kinda the same but before i started making songs i would sing covers and it made me happy but i had this guitar teacher at my school and hes so motivational he helps me so much and he wrote an album actually and that inspired me to start writing song and right now im on the 5th song for my ep and i love what i do
I wrote my first story in 1996 when my brother died. It helped me cope with what was going on. I didn't write again until 2019 when I was going through DV and was paralysed. I realised after I left my ex that every story I'd written was (romance) that the MMC was always not very nice but loved the FMC enough to change his behaviour. My writing reflected the things I was going through and how I wanted it to turn out in the end but it didn't end that way. I haven't been able to write since so I think somehow I can only write when I have difficult issues to process.
Mostly by necessity. In the early 2010's my right knee started hurting so I had to walk with a cane. So I put my joinery skills to work & started building canes. Had to be more than one because I want spares, just in case. The city I lived in at the time also enacted a partial ban on plastic bags from supermarkets; to deal with that, I bought an old sewing machine, took a class & sewed a few shopping bags from pieces of denim. (By then I had picked up a few pairs of jeans off the sidewalks in my neighborhood. Some college students lose their pants when they're drunk!)
After I moved to where I am now, I lost all my canes (it's a long story without a punchline). So I immediately set to making another one. Been in a layoff for about two years now but I have four canes & a 5th one 90% done, all of various hardwoods. Soon I may have reasons to start sewing again, with the old machine. (I sometimes sew up holes in my socks by hand, but for me it's not a hobby).
⬆️ This is my answer, though somewhat dated.
