Internet and phone
What all do you do on the Internet especially if youre using it on your phone? What other activities do you do on your phone?
For me.... I watch a lot of music videos, I Google up info on things all the time, I use 7 cups and a couple of other social media to interact with family and friends, I use some apps to pay home bills ... I also keep a tab on news to stay updated on a few things.
For me since I like to write a lot- diaries and schedules a lot - it all goes in the Notes section of my phone..
And I click random photos too..
So a lot of my time is spent with these things.
Its kind of a necessity.
Is it too much screen time? Do I need to make some change? I wonder 🤔
What's your equation like? And what do you think about it - is it unhealthy or okay ?
@Creamyyy
I am afraid increasing screen time is a big problem nowadays. Some scholars claim that we are already cyborgs: humans not leaving their phones even for a moment.
But for me it's important to discern various kinds of screen devices usage:
When you scroll FB, send hearts to "funny" things at TT, play pinball (or half-naked gun-armed pink witch from the moon) or read clickbait mainstream "news" for hours, it can easily turn into a massive waste of time, brainwashing, empty dopamine shots and addiction.
If you, for example, watch music videos or a decent movie, it's your leisure time and fun.
Still, if you use your screen time to talk to a friend, it's a connection, not a wasted time. And many people naturally prefer the convenience of reading e-books or digital magazines, or listening to audio books than walking around with a printed book.
I think the question that can be important to answer is: "Is my screen activity pushing me forward—making me happier, calmer or more knowledgeable—or is it just pushing me back and making me tread water?"
The problem is more and more we cannot do without eye drops and glasses. So, maybe a new generation of devices in 10 years might be more eyes-friendly (like e-ink promised... and failed)?
WhatsApp with a few people
No social media
I don’t do any banking on my phone
7 Cups and a few games, maybe the odd search for information that’s about it for me.
Being a manager of IT, I’m constantly on my computer for work so I just want to unplug when I get home, I might turn my home computer on once a week to pay bills and do some banking.
@Creamyyy
I just use mine for Whatsapp and seven cups.
No games or social media .
I like real connection and not random or fake personally.
We can all be guilty of spending too much time in it, I guess, it's about moderation 💕💜
Yeah. Moderation is key. And everyone figures out what the balance looks like for them.
@Amanda84
@Creamyyy
Exactly, we all have differing ideas on what balance looks like 💜
@Creamyyy recently I started using the google blog site to hope maybe someone will see it and leave a message of understanding and I’ll find my person. Idk, seems delusional. Also I can’t really keep a diary bc my mom goes through my stuff, so everything has to be virtual. I also enjoy Tik Tok it’s good for distractions.
How about a virtual diary? Like some where you can write posts and keep them private..I think blog sites offer that feature. I write stuff that I set on private mode.
@greendayfangirl
@Creamyyy But if the site goes bankrupt all the content goes, it's like there are literally years with no paper printed pitures, all content lost when we change phones
I think it's personal preference, how much time you spend on your phone, as long as you're not neglecting your responsibilities.
For me gaming on the phone is essential, that calms me down a lot and lifts my mood. I check the bus timetables, listen to music, sometimes I'm blogging on the bus..
Texting and checking emails, that's it really :)
Yeah I think sometimes I overdo both social media and music time .. as a way to cope with emotions .. but Im learning to balance it out.
@ScrabbleBrain
@Creamyyy That's all you can do, be aware and find a balance.
It's addictive and fun so it draws us in but I try and hold on to that satisfied feeling of Oh I accomplished everything and now I can chill out properly lol
Thanks. Ill take you as an inspiration then and divide out my time better :)
And on that note, off I go, closing this app, and doing something else on my list. 🙌
@ScrabbleBrain
@Creamyyy Yes I should do the same, havent finished everything:D
No.. seems perfect use of internet
I really hate it when they pop up with the memories, I keep thinking I've stopped it but it comes back AGAIN and again and again, any ideas?
@CocoaCassie
is this on an Android device?
Go through the camera settings, there should be something under notifications. I don’t have the turned on, on my phone
@braindamag3nthanks youo so much, that seems to have worked . . . time will tell
