What hobbies give you life and meaning?

Recently, been on-and-off with hobbies...

Trying to get back into playing guitar and learn fingerstyle (I only know tabs and chords). Eventually, would like to go back to a few other instruments.

I used to draw, but haven't done that in a long time...I miss art. Been watching indie animations to sort of make up for it. Would like to get back into drawing and making comics/animations again!
I also used to go out and do karaoke and explore nature, but have been too afraid to leave my house due to traumatic events...some leading to nearly making me unalive.

I have some medical issues, so haven't had the joy of running or weightlifting anymore...

I read a lot more lately and I write here and there.
I used to study too for language learning, but only touch upon it here and there...Trying to make pen pals to get back into it.

I feel sometimes without all of my hobbies, I feel incomplete.
I feel somewhat more gloom...
I can't focus on my hobbies as much anymore like I used to.

My mind has been stressed out lately, due to the medical issues, quitting substances (MJ & alcohol), dealing with financial issues (can't work until I recover from medical issue and was close to eviction), and haven't been able to see my long distance partner IRL for a while due to circumstances we're going through(no transportation or funds for the moment). Been feeling gloomy...

When I was in a relationship with my abusive ex-fiancé, I did quit my hobby for the years we were together, was busy with work and taking care of little one, since ex was not very helpful...and used to physically, verbally, & financially abuse me. Ex is out of the picture, so it's just little one and I.

How do you get inspiration to get back into your hobbies?

Thinking of doing hobbies together with little one, maybe it could spark the fun again?
He enjoys reading, drawing, music, singing, building, and playing outside. Similar hobbies.

I totally get where you’re coming from. I used to have a ton of hobbies and now I come home and end up on my computer or phone, watching Netflix or scrolling. It’s like my brain just got so overwhelmed by life that it checked out. I love drawing, reading, etc, but it’s like my brain just… It’s got nothing. It’s not fun. I barely read anymore… I used to read like I was starving for knowledge. Now I don’t.

I find that it’s easier to do stuff if it’s for other people. Like, I will draw more because I’m working on Christmas cards (yes, in February lol), or I’ll come on 7Cups for the express purpose of encouraging or helping someone else.

In my book, if it gives one's life meaning then it is far more than a mere "hobby".

One other thought: while I've always been a creative person (you can see a few samples in this thread), due to current & future events in my life I won't have much time for drawing or painting for the rest of this year. Or the next. Perhaps the year after that, though by then I hope things have settled down enough so I can sketch here & there.

@ImpudentIncognito

Reading is good because we're basically life-long learners
