Famous Classic Toys!
So I don't know about you but I subscribe to emails from Interesting Facts and today I got a link to an article I really wanted to share about toys. You can see the full article here which goes on about fun-filled facts about 12 classic famous toys.
From these list of toys, which toys did you have? What's one of the facts that you didn't know about any of these toys!?
I had the frisbee, Mr. potato head, silly putty, barbies, slinky, candy land, magic 8 ball, play-doh, and simon,
I found it quite interesting how silly putty was a happy accident due to two chemical engineers, one was trying to come up with a rubber substitute during WWII and produced a bouncy and stretchy material. It's just quite fascinating that Silly Putty was originally marketed towards adults and ended up being rebranded a child's toy.
Interesting article; I think the list would be a bit different for the UK but I had silly putty, a frisbee and slinky. There were other things here also like Barbie and Mr Potatohead, especially due to the success of Toy Story.
@Fenrisulfr
What are some toys you had in the UK that are not on this list?
@Remina Yo-yos, skipping ropes, hula-hoops, cup & ball (along with a similar device I forget the name of but clicks when you get a rhythm going with it).. there were the indoor games as well like Operation, Jenga, of course Monopoly, Guess Who? and Dominoes. Remnants of so many childhoods are likely buried in the gardens of so many houses, a piece of this game or that, always fun unearthing such things.
@Fenrisulfr
Oh I had yo-yos. I could never use the hula-hoops because my hips suck. lol. I LOVED operation, BUZZ BUZZ! Jenga is fun. Monopoly destroyed families and friendships. I loved Guess who? I used to play lots of Dominoes in the nursing home psych ward when I was a tech. Are there any UK original toys that might not have made it to the states?
@Remina Hm, I cannot think of any, though there was Action Man (similar to GI Joe) which for a while was the boy equivalent to Barbie, just looked it up and that made it's way into the US as well.
@Fenrisulfr
I never seen it but I'm also a girl and my mom didn't buy me "boy" toys lol
