Tips for ways to do hobbies for free/low budget?

I would really love to do more theater/dance and maybe join a group, but professional studios are very expensive. Any tips or experience with doing hobbies for low cost?

@Daydreamer47 Try checking out student groups. Many of them welcome non-students too!
I used to teach dance for a group at the university. Nothing super serious, was volunteer stuff, so our costs were related to necessary items (speakers, music, etc.) and the room rental which wasn't expensive. This kept the costs low for our members.
