The Art of Thought-Flipping

The concept of Being has comprised my philosophical awakening from an early age, resulting in a long journey of self-discovery with several pit stops, detours, and head-spinning U-turns. Even during those unexpected bumps, turns, and hiccups along the way, the aspect of being that has been the most important to me—although I couldn’t name it until now— is the art of THOUGHT FLIPPING: turning a negative into a potential positive. Learning about it here made my spidey senses tingle, striking a chord of familiarity in me; I know this. I see how it begins with I statements, with being able to express how we feel when something happens so that whatever follows will organically turn to affirmation of authentic positivity while challenging any negativity that tries to surface. I am so grateful for these opportunities.

I am currently working as an ESL teacher for Francophone students, and I must admit that my conversations about conjugating the “etre” verb “to be” have taken on a new slant for me that reflects a different value of the concept! Being is always an active verb, and presence in the moment allows us to monitor our gut reaction responses to life experiences so that we can effectively identify any developing thoughts that need flipping.

Do you remember the first time you considered what it meant to be? Which aspect of being do you consider to be the most important to your progress thus far?

@Jennifire

What an interesting concept 🥰

I spent alot if my childhood allowing others to define my sense of being.

In a negative way.

From my family!

To the wrong friends.

To bullies.

They formed my sense of being and identity for years and I hated myself.

I did many things to try and see who am I?

No answers.

Stony silence.

It was in my when I began to heal and really learn to see that I had been dealt a bad hand, that I found my true sense of being, within myself, I learnt, I can be who I want to be, no one else determines that but me 💜💕

@Amanda84I am so sorry that you had to go through that, and from so many types of people. Bullies are everywhere, aren't they? Even in our families where we should feel safe. I know you already know this-but I want you to hear that you are not alone! You should be so proud of the steps you have made to learn about the power within yourself and your autonomy to determine who YOU want to be! That stony silence lies behind you now.

Thank you so much for sharing this, you are a shining light!
