The Ways We Endure — And the Strength It Gives Us

Life isn’t always about thriving—sometimes it’s just about enduring. And that’s okay. We go through quiet battles every day that no one else sees—grief we carry, doubts we wrestle with, moments we survive when we thought we wouldn’t. But somehow, we keep going.

Endurance isn’t weakness. It’s actually one of the most powerful, deeply human strengths we have. It shows up in the small choices—to get out of bed, to take a breath, to speak kindly to ourselves when it's easier to be harsh. Over time, all those small acts of endurance build something solid inside us: resilience, compassion, and the kind of strength that doesn’t need to shout to be real.

I’d love to hear from you—what are some ways you’ve endured, even when it was hard? And looking back, what kind of strength has that given you?

Let’s remind each other: enduring is not just surviving—it’s a quiet kind of growth. And you’re doing better than you think.

One way I’ve endured is by learning to sit with pain without rushing to fix it. There were times I wanted to run, numb, or distract myself, but instead, I chose to stay—through heartbreak, loneliness, and moments of uncertainty. It didn’t feel brave at the time, just necessary. But looking back, that quiet persistence was brave. It taught me to trust myself more.

The strength it’s given me? A deeper self-awareness and patience—with myself and with others. I don’t take people’s struggles at face value anymore. I know that behind a calm face might be someone holding it all together with invisible threads.

Your line “strength that doesn’t need to shout to be real” really struck me. Sometimes the strongest people are the ones who simply keep choosing to try again. So thank you for this reminder that even when we’re just enduring, we are still growing.

hi. Thanks for sharing. I think sitting and feeling pain is so important. It lets us embrace the feelings we have.

I remember to be kind to myself. On a certain day if I have something planned and I don’t feel like doing it for whatever reason I won’t do it and I will do something I like to or want to instead. For example, if I know I have to go get my car oil changed, but I am not up to the social interaction, then I tell myself it can wait til tomorrow. Being kind to myself has changed my life but took me years to do

Endurance is something we often underestimate. You can shoulder something someone else wouldn't be able to. That's what makes everyone's experience unique and no matter how small the thing might be to you it's probably a big deal to someone else. I'm glad you opened this conversation because no matter who you we endure stuff everyday but nobody appreciates these little battles we fight every day. It's what makes who we are,  survival and enduring will always have an imprint on you. When I was at my senior year at high school, I was pushing day after day to graduate. I remember it feeling like forever at that time but I graduated eventually. There's a song that says what seemed forever was just a moment. I never realised what that song truly meant until I reflected upon that moment. I learnt that year that patience is one of the keys to success and that I've got to be patient to be able to see results.
