I often wonder about the differences between substance abuse vs addiction

I’m not an expert but literally, they are different. Substance abuse is using a substance not as prescribed. It won’t cause addiction if it is used in small amount and not frequent. While addiction can be caused by substance abuse, and also not. Like alcohol addiction is not really be considered substance abuse. Sex addiction too.

Because I’m not an expert so this could be wrong, but this is what I understand. Hope it helps :)

@Brainhack249 I Googled substance abuse vs addiction, and there's a lot of information out there. For example: Examples of Substance Abuse vs. Dependence and Addiction

The main difference seems to be that addiction is a compulsive pattern of behaviour.
