Emotional Truth Diary
People who take time to keep a diary on their emotions tend to reflect on and are generally more optimistic, can take better care of themselves and are less stressed. But the initial penning down of emotional states one is undergoing may be a hurdle for some. What do you feel about keeping a journal of your moods, feelings, desires n behaviours?
@safeshoulder2CryOn
Keeping journal is important and it helps us analyse ourselves and reduce level of mistakes.
@safeshoulder2CryOn. The problem I have when doing this is it is an opportunity to express all the negative emotions. I find this emphasises them further and I feel like a terrible person when I read them after.
It does nothing to change the reality of my situation
Youre not alone PurpleWurple.Many of us have felt the same too.Penning your moods, feelings n desires in your journal allows you to recognize negative automatic thoughts about certain trigger conditions.Writing helps you to organize thoughts, accept experiences, and put them into context.When you ask yourself
What went well?
What did not go well?
Which of the steps did you find most difficult? Why?
What are the triggers? Toxic relationships, certain places, smells, events, words, music?
By writing, you can magnify and then swap the negative thoughts with pisitive thoughts and think about what resources youve gained from your experiences, including bad experiences. For instance, if you write about feelings of gratitude, this then creates new and redemptive perpectives that may help you reframe difficult life situations as opportunities.
it sounds hard, but dont give up, you ask yourself want you want in your life and each day you take a step towards achieving your goal by self-regulating your negative thoughts.
